The Tool & Equipment Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the management, maintenance, and proper use of all tools and equipment. 

Essential Functions:

  1. check-in/check-out procedures for employees utilizing them.
  2. Managing all tools and equipment, inventory, coordinating repairs, implementing preventative maintenance schedules, and enforcing proper use. 
  3. Ensures that tools and equipment are available, functional, and safe. 
  4. Oversee the daily management, distribution, receipt, and coordination of tools to and from job sites to support field. 
  5. Receive tool requests and coordinate the delivery and pickup of tools.
  6. Inspect tools upon return to the yard and reassemble job boxes and palletized equipment.
  7. Maintain inventory of all tools and equipment using electronic management software.
  8. Manage Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) supplies and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) distribution to job sites as needed.


Key Responsibilities:

Inventory Management:

  1. Conduct regular physical inventory checks of all tools and equipment to maintain accurate records.
  2. Track tool usage and identify potential shortages or excessive usage patterns.
  3. Manage tool procurement processes, including ordering new tools, obtaining quotes, and managing budgets.
  4. Maintenance and Repair:
  5. Implement preventative maintenance schedules for all tools and equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  6. Coordinate repairs with outside vendors or internal maintenance teams when necessary.
  7. Oversee the proper calibration and testing of specialized tools to maintain accuracy.

Tool Issue and Accountability:

  1. Establish and enforce strict check-in/check-out procedures for all tools and equipment to maintain accountability.
  2. Investigate and address any missing or damaged tools.
  3. Train employees on proper tool usage and safety protocols.

Compliance and Safety:

  1. Ensure adherence to all safety regulations regarding tool usage and storage.
  2. Conduct regular safety inspections of tools and equipment.
  3. Investigate and report any accidents or safety concerns related to tools and equipment.
  4. Staff Supervision:
  5. Lead and manage a team of tool crib attendants or technicians if applicable
  6. Assign tasks, provide training, and evaluate performance of staff.


Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of various types of tools and equipment.
  2. Excellent organizational skills to manage inventory and maintenance schedules effectively.
  3. High attention to detail to ensure accurate recordkeeping and identify potential issues.
  4. Ability to troubleshoot basic equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs as needed.
  5. Leadership skills to supervise a team and enforce company policies.
  6. Proficiency in computer software for inventory management and reporting.
  7. Forklift certification for loading and unloading equipment (preferred or required as applicable).

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  1. This position is primarily based in a designated tool crib or warehouse area within a manufacturing facility and requires
  2. frequent movement throughout the facility to access tools, equipment, and workstations. It may also involve occasional interaction with production staff on the shop floor and exposure to various tools and equipment depending on the industry.
  3. The role may include administrative tasks, requiring the operation of a computer and other standard office equipment such as phones, printers, and photocopiers. 
  4. Effective communication is essential, as the individual must exchange accurate information internally and externally via phone, email, or in person.
  5. This position operates within both an industrial and clerical environment. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate but may vary depending on proximity to manufacturing operations. 
  6. The individual must be able to lift and carry up to 10 pounds as needed. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
