Backend Engineer (AI-First Environment)

You're an experienced backend engineer who's genuinely excited about AI, but feel held back. Maybe your current environment is slow to adopt new tools. In this role, AI-assisted development is core to how work gets done, not an experiment or side project.

You also wont be building features that sit in a backlog for months. Youll regularly push code to production that has real impact on users, with fast feedback loops and visible results.

What Youll Do

Solve real problems

  • Deeply understand problems before solving them

  • Build robust backend solutions

  • Identify and surface technical risks early

Work with modern tools

  • Use AI development tools as part of your daily workflow

  • Stay current with emerging tools and challenge the existing stack

  • Propose improvements when better solutions exist

Architect systems that matter

  • Own architectural decisions for a Spring / Java backend

  • Help design and shape AI-driven features

Own the API layer

  • Design and evolve APIs with clean, scalable contracts

  • Enable teams to move fast without breaking things

Lead through influence

  • Set technical standards

  • Guide architectural decisions

  • Raise the bar across the engineering team

Who Were Looking For

Strong backend experience

  • 5+ years building backend systems

  • Solid Spring / Java expertise

  • Experience designing systems at scale and making thoughtful trade-offs

AI-native workflow

  • Actively using AI development tools in day-to-day work

  • Strong judgement on when AI output is production-ready

NoSQL experience

  • Experience with document-based databases

  • Comfortable modelling data outside traditional relational structures

Architectural mindset

  • Ability to reason about complex systems

  • Strong API design instincts

Ownership

  • Comfortable taking responsibility from concept through to production

  • Proactive in identifying and solving problems

Collaborative approach

  • Communicates decisions clearly

  • Enjoys working with others to find the best solution

Nice to Have

  • AWS experience

  • Docker

  • Some DevOps exposure
