Job Title: Tool Maker A

Overview:

The Tool Maker will play a crucial role in planning, constructing, altering, and repairing a wide range of tools, jigs, prototypes, special parts, and fixtures. This position involves utilizing a variety of manual and CNC machine tools to perform complex machine operations. The Tool Maker will work from prints, sketches, computer-aided manufacturing software, and instructions to ensure precise and accurate outcomes.

Job Duties:

  • Plan and layout job assignments, determine machining operation sequences, and calculate shrinkage and expansion allowances.
  • Perform machine operations requiring unusual setups to maintain close tolerances and fits.
  • Conduct tool tryouts, diagnose and correct problems, and make recommendations for tool modifications.
  • Set up, program, and operate EDM equipment and complex CNC machine tools.
  • Assist in training lower graded tool makers and collaborate with the Engineering Department and production employees on tooling and prototype refinements.
  • Develop engineering models and make design modifications as necessary.
  • Utilize a variety of manual and CNC machine tools, precision measuring instruments, and other equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment and adhere to safety protocols.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in manual machining.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in manual milling and lathe operations, including facing, boring, drilling, turning, and threading.
  • Experience using measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and optical comparators.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills, basic trigonometry, and mathematical proficiency.
  • Ability to pass Tool Maker A written and physical test.

Must-Haves:

  • Experience with manual milling and lathe operations.
  • Proficiency in using measurement tools and reading blueprints.
  • Strong mathematical skills and ability to pass Tool Maker A written and physical test.
