Assistant Payroll Accountant

 Job Description:

Job Title: Assistant Payroll Accountant

Type: Full-time

Salary:Competitive salary based on experience

Responsibilities:

1. Process weekly or biweekly payrolls, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal and state wage and hour laws.

2. Manage the processing of new hires, temporary workers, transfers, promotions, and terminations in a timely and accurate manner.

3. Prepare and audit W‐4s, payroll balance sheets, year-to-date earnings, and other payroll-related documents.

4. Maintain and update employee records in the payroll system, including wages, benefits, and time off accruals.

5. Generate management reports on a regular basis, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports on payroll and benefits data.

6. Coordinate and manage payroll audits, insurance audits, tax audits, and other audits as required.

7. Ensure timely payment of payroll taxes to state and federal authorities.

8. Prepare and file quarterly and yearly payroll tax filings with state and federal agencies.

9. Reconcile bank statements and other financial records as needed.

10. Manage and maintain employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and vacation/sick leave accruals.

11. Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state human resource requirements, including monitoring and implementing legal changes.

12. Develop and update human resource policies and procedures as needed.

13. Maintain historical human resource records and design efficient filing and retrieval systems.

14. Counsel and discipline employees as needed, and provide guidance to management on employee relations issues.

15. Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollment, claims processing, and educational programs.

16. Perform additional assignments as directed by supervisor.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:

- Experience as a Payroll Accountant.

- Ideally, 4+ years of experience in the construction industry.

- Strong knowledge of payroll processing procedures and regulations.

- Excellent organizational and time management skills.

- Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office applications.

- Ability to work independently and handle confidential information with discretion.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice to Have:

- Certification in payroll processing or human resources.

- Familiarity with construction-specific payroll practices and regulations.

- Experience with union payroll processing.

- Previous experience in benefits administration.

- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
