Job Summary:
The Dean, Faculty of Medicine is the academic and administrative leader responsible for strategic planning, curriculum development, accreditation, faculty management, research promotion, and student success within the Faculty of Medicine. The Dean ensures that the medical programs meet Malaysian Medical Council (MMC), Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), and Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) standards while driving excellence in medical education, clinical training, research, and healthcare partnerships.
The Dean plays a key role in liaising with government regulatory bodies, statutory boards, and healthcare institutions to ensure compliance with national health and medical education policies. Additionally, the Dean is responsible for financial sustainability and resource optimization within the Faculty of Medicine.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategic Planning
- Provide visionary leadership in medical education, research, and clinical training to align with mission and national healthcare priorities.
- Develop and implement strategic plans for the growth and advancement of the Faculty of Medicine.
- Ensure alignment of medical programs with Malaysian Government policies, MMC, MQA, and MoHE regulations.
- Promote interdepartmental and interdisciplinary collaboration in medical sciences, healthcare, and technology.
- Foster partnerships with hospitals, healthcare institutions, and research organizations to enhance clinical training and research opportunities.
- Oversee the financial planning and sustainability of the Faculty of Medicine, ensuring optimal resource allocation.
Academic Program Management & Accreditation
- Oversee the Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and postgraduate medical programs, ensuring curriculum relevance, academic quality, and adherence to accreditation standards.
- Ensure compliance with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC), Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), and Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) guidelines for medical education.
- Lead periodic program review and curriculum development to align with evolving medical advancements and global healthcare trends.
- Develop academic policies, clinical training frameworks, and assessment methodologies to enhance student learning outcomes.
- Ensure effective implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) principles in line with national accreditation frameworks.
- Prepare and submit reports for MQA, MMC, and MoHE accreditation audits, program renewals, and compliance monitoring.
Faculty & Clinical Training Development
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a highly qualified medical faculty, ensuring excellence in teaching, research, and clinical expertise.
- Implement faculty professional development programs to enhance teaching effectiveness and medical research capabilities.
- Strengthen clinical teaching and training partnerships with government and private hospitals for student clinical rotations.
- Ensure faculty members meet Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and MQA academic staff qualifications.
- Promote continuous faculty engagement in research, publications, and medical conferences.
- Monitor faculty performance through teaching evaluations, student feedback, and research output assessments.
Clinical Training & Hospital Partnerships
- Oversee student clinical placements, housemanship training, and medical internship programs in collaboration with partner hospitals.
- Ensure clinical exposure, simulation-based learning, and hands-on patient management meet national healthcare standards.
- Establish agreements with government hospitals, private healthcare providers, and international medical institutions for student training opportunities.
- Ensure faculty involvement in clinical supervision, case-based learning, and bedside teaching.
- Monitor student competency development through clinical assessments, Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), and professional examinations.
Research & Innovation in Medicine
- Promote a research-driven medical education environment, encouraging faculty and students to engage in medical research and publications.
- Collaborate with government agencies and research institutes to secure grants and funding for medical research.
- Promote interdisciplinary medical research in collaboration with healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.
- Ensure faculty and students contribute to indexed medical journals, conferences, and evidence-based healthcare innovations.
- Encourage student involvement in medical research projects, clinical trials, and scientific innovation initiatives.
Student Development & Engagement
- Ensure a student-centered learning environment that prioritizes academic success, professional development, and well-being.
- Oversee student admission, academic progression, and academic advising to support medical students through their studies.
- Implement mentorship programs, student support services, and career guidance for aspiring doctors.
- Monitor student performance, assessment outcomes, and clinical competencies to ensure quality graduates.
- Address and resolve student academic grievances, misconduct issues, and disciplinary actions professionally.
Regulatory Compliance & Institutional Governance
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Faculty of Medicine and Malaysian Medical Council (MMC), MQA, MoHE, and Ministry of Health (MoH).
- Ensure compliance with Medical Act 1971 (Amended 2012) and MMC Accreditation Guidelines.
- Prepare faculty reports, accreditation documentation, and institutional compliance submissions to regulatory and statutory bodies.
- Maintain high standards of ethics, governance, and regulatory compliance in medical education and clinical practice.
- Participate in university decision-making, academic boards, and policy development committees.

Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- MBBS with MD/MS in any specialization from a university recognized MMC, Malaysia.
- Must be registered with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) or an equivalent international regulatory body.
- Additional qualifications in Higher Education Management, Public Health, or Medical Research are preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 15 years of experience in medical education and clinical training.
- At least 5-8 years in a senior academic leadership role (Dean, Head of School, or equivalent).
- Proven experience in developing medical curricula, securing accreditation, and managing faculty research.
- Strong collaborations with hospitals, healthcare providers, and government regulatory agencies.
