About the job Commissioning Manager - Concentrator Plant - Mining - Northern Cape
Our client, a leading and well-established international mining house with operations in the Northern Cape, is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager - Technical Lead to join their team on a fixed-term contract. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in large-scale mining projects, where you will play a key role in the commissioning and startup of mineral processing plants. Key Responsibilities
- Lead Commissioning: Oversee the commissioning process for mineral processing plants, ensuring all activities align with project goals, timelines, and quality standards. Lead the commissioning team throughout the execution phase.
- Develop Commissioning Plans: Formulate and implement detailed Commissioning Management Plans, Execution Plans, and Strategy Outlines, ensuring a structured and efficient approach to the commissioning process.
- Process Control Management: Ensure that process plant control elements are designed, implemented, and tested according to specifications, including control logics, operating philosophies, and system architecture.
- Safety Compliance and Leadership: Ensure adherence to safety standards and regulations, particularly during pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR), and actively contribute to a safety-first culture throughout commissioning activities.
- Coordinate Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate with engineering, design, and construction teams to ensure seamless integration of systems and equipment during the commissioning phase, providing technical guidance and support as needed.
- Manage Hazop and Risk Assessments: Lead or participate in Hazop studies, pre-commissioning Hazop, and other risk management processes, ensuring all potential hazards are identified and mitigated before plant startup.
- Provide Technical Oversight: Offer expertise in mineral processing systems, providing technical guidance on commissioning activities, troubleshooting, and resolving complex issues to ensure successful plant startup and operations.
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering and/or Metallurgy or related field.
- 10 years' experience with strong Minerals Processing background and knowledge.
- Hands on projects experience in the design, constructing and commissioning mineral processing plants. Concentrator and Iron Ore processing plants is essential.
- Understanding of Process Plant Control Elements: Control & Operating philosophy, control logics, functional specifications, control system architect.
- Commissioning knowledge and execution thereof: Commissioning Management Plan, Commissioning Execution Plan, Commissioning Strategy Outline.
- Hazop (Pre-commissioning Hazop).
- Previous experience in leading/managing/overseeing commissioning teams.
- Excellent understanding of mining environment and MHSA.
- Previously held a legal appointment.
- Strong Safety focus with knowledge in Pre-Startup Safety Review Procedure (PSSR).
