Our esteemed client is a prominent mining company operating in Liberia, spanning three significant mines: Bea, Bomi, and Mano. These unique mining assets are set to be further enhanced by world-class concentrator plants, designed to convert magnetite ore into high-grade premium iron ore. Additionally, significant logistics solutions and state-of-the-art port infrastructure will support their operations, solidifying their position as a leader in the industry.
Responsibilities:
- Conceptualize, evaluate, optimise, and design port infrastructure such as jetty, storage, conveyors, and ship loaders by collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to deliver cost-effective and reliable solutions that meet project objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure the infrastructure design provides a sustainable solution and meets the ship loading requirement of optimum vessel size in terms of capital cost, operation and maintenance cost, reliability, run time, loading rate requirement, and freight cost-benefit aspects.
- Embrace newer technologies, digitalization & innovation, benchmarking & analytics in port operations.
- Provide innovative and cost-effective port solutions and lead the execution.
- Plan, monitor progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions to keep the project on track.
- Participate in design and engineering reviews to ensure that designs meet project specifications, industry best practices and local regulatory requirements.
- Prepare permit applications and liaise with Government regulatory authorities and relevant departments/stakeholders to obtain approvals for the port projects.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory permissions from appropriate authorities.
- Play a vital role in acquiring the right of way and land for the port infrastructure.
- Identify social concerns, resolve them, and foster good relations and rapport with local communities and stakeholders.
- Uphold strict adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify best-in-class partners, evaluate and benchmark them and work closely with the commercial team to secure their services.
- Manage the performance of partners to drive successful implementation of the projects.
- Manage the contractual relations effectively.
- Ensure timely delivery of supplies with the highest quality through quality control, quality assurance processes, and expediting mechanisms.
- Oversee construction activities through regular inspection and establishing systems and processes.
- Meet cost and timeline targets
Minimum Requirements
- B.E. with over 10 years of relevant project management experience in the maritime or port infrastructure sector and bulk material handling.
- Strong technical knowledge of port engineering principles, construction practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Innovative problem-solving skills with the ability to devise creative solutions for complex challenges.
- Transformational leadership style.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey intricate technical information to diverse stakeholders.
- Proven leadership abilities with a track record of mentoring and guiding a team.
- Familiarity with Liberian regulations, standards, and best practices is advantageous.
- Verbal and written proficiency in English is mandatory.
