Our client, an International Mining Company, is seeking an accomplished Head of Processing to lead and optimize their mineral processing operations. This key role involves managing the design and performance of processing circuitscrushing, grinding, flotation, and dewateringto enhance recovery, throughput, and cost-efficiency while adhering to environmental and safety standards. The ideal candidate will develop and implement operational strategies, drive quality assurance protocols, and lead a high-performing team to ensure consistent product quality and regulatory compliance. Your leadership will also focus on fostering innovation, minimizing environmental impact, and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of mineral processing operations like design Optimisation, Mineral Processing Circuits including crushing, grinding, flotation, and dewatering, to maximize recovery and throughput , ensuring production efficiency while minimising costs and environmental impact.
  • Lead efforts to optimize process parameters, equipment performance, and reagent usage through process modelling, simulation and experimental testing.
  • Develop and implement operational plans, schedules, and procedures to optimize plant performance while adhering to safety and environmental regulations.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance and control protocols to ensure the consistent quality of final products, including metal, tailings, and environmental effluents in accordance with contractual specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement quality assurance programs, including sampling, testing, and analysis protocols, to monitor product quality throughout the processing chain.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to address quality-related issues and implement corrective actions to maintain product integrity.
  • Implement and maintain process safety management systems to identity, assess and mitigate process related hazards and risks and ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, including environmental, health, and safety standards, as well as mining and export regulations in Zambia.
  • Lead initiatives to identify the opportunities for process optimisation, cost reduction and productivity improvement through innovation, technology adoption and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and local communities to promote responsible mining practices and environmental stewardship.
  • Implement environmental management systems and initiatives to minimize the environmental footprint of mineral processing operations and mitigate potential impacts on local ecosystems and communities.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the processing and quality assurance teams, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, train, and develop talent within the department, providing coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to enhance individual and team capabilities.
  • Promote teamwork, collaboration, and knowledge sharing to optimize operational performance and achieve departmental objectives.

Desired Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in mineral processing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role in the mining industry, preferably in African Region.
  • Strong understanding of processing principles, techniques, and equipment, with hands-on experience in optimizing plant performance and product quality.
  • Thorough knowledge of Zambian mining regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices, with a commitment to responsible mining practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of managing teams, driving operational excellence, and delivering results in a challenging and dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to safety, environmental sustainability, and corporate social responsibility, with a passion for contributing to the sustainable development of the mining sector in Zambia.
