We are excited to present an exceptional opportunity with one of our esteemed clients, an International Mining House, for the position of Chief Safety Officer on a fixed-term contract. This rewarding role is based at one of their mines in the Northern Cape, offering a dynamic and challenging environment for an experienced and results-driven professional. Our client is seeking a dedicated, hardworking, and enthusiastic individual with a proven track record in safety management within the mining industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive safety policies and procedures in compliance with local and international regulations.
- Implement and enforce safety standards across all operations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize accidents and injuries.
- Ensure that everyone has done safety training, ensuring they are knowledgeable about safety practices and emergency procedures.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness through continuous education and training sessions.
- Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes.
- Prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and standards set by governing bodies, particular the Mine Health Safety Act.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans for various scenarios, including fires, explosions, and environmental hazards.
- Coordinate emergency drills and exercises to ensure readiness.
- Monitor and analyse safety performance metrics and trends.
- Use data to improve safety programs and policies continuously.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the safety team and other staff members.
- Communicate safety goals, updates, and concerns effectively to all levels of the organization.
- Liaise with government agencies, industry bodies, and community stakeholders on safety-related matters.
- Represent the company in safety forums and contribute to industry-wide safety improvements.
- Ensure that safety practices align with environmental health and sustainability goals.
- Address any environmental hazards that may impact safety.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and innovations to enhance safety practices and reduce risks.
- Any ad hoc tasks as requested by Management.
Qualifications and Experience:
- National Diploma in Safety Management or related qualification.
- At least 8 years of experience within mining, specifically mineral processing industry.
- Professional Registration will be preferred.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Mining Safety Act.
