Head of Renewable Energy - Mining - Northern Cape

Our client, an International Mining Company, has an opportunity for a Head of Renewable Energy to join their team in the Northern Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the entire Renewables Energy Projects pipeline. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Conceptualize, lead, develop, and negotiate an optimized power sourcing strategy to ensure the availability of reliable power solutions.
• Drive the entire Renewables Energy Projects pipeline and be the driving force behind the vision of becoming a Green Metal producer.
• Stakeholder engagement is critical in this role as well as advocacy and liaising with the Government and statutory bodies.
• Build and Lead the Renewables Energy Project team and enable them to implement the projects.
• Manage the renewables energy project and process, partner lock-in, and management thereof, ensuring the security of reliable power at the right price.
• Ensure that all projects meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and sustainability.
• Keep abreast of new technologies, industry trends, and regulatory requirements.
• Provide regular reports to senior management on project status, risks, and opportunities.
• Be the face of RE (renewable energy) Projects for all engagements and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or equivalent (MBA / PMP advantageous)
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in the renewables industry.
• Extensive knowledge of Private Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) is essential.
• A strong track record in project development and getting projects over the line (FC financial close), in either wind or solar or a combination using battery energy storage solutions.
• Must have experience in a leading role in closing a PPA.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels.
• Autonomous worker, with the ability to operate two levels above and two levels below job function if required.
