Overview

We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Financial Data Analyst. This role is well suited to a numerate graduate who enjoys working with data, identifying patterns, and turning raw numbers into clear, actionable insights. You will work primarily in spreadsheets, analyzing operational and financial data to support business decisions across areas such as pricing, sales performance, and cost analysis. This is a remote position supporting a UK-based client, and the successful candidate will be expected to align their working hours with Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

Key Responsibilities

  • Import, clean, and organize large datasets from operational sources such as EPOS systems, sales reports, and cost records  
  • Build and maintain spreadsheets and data models to track key metrics, including cost per unit, sales by channel, and margin analysis 
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities within datasets and summarize findings in a clear, structured format 
  • Answer specific business questions by pulling and analyzing relevant data — for example, identifying which sales channel is performing best or where costs are increasing 
  • Prepare regular and ad hoc reports for internal stakeholders, presenting data in a way that is easy to understand and act on
  • Proactively flag issues or insights without being asked, and suggest follow-up questions or areas worth investigating

Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12) with strong Mathematics or Accounting results as a minimum 
  • BCom degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; a BCom Honours or postgraduate qualification will be advantageous
  • Progress toward or completion of a professional designation such as CIMA, ACCA, CFA, or CA(SA) is advantageous 
  • Solid proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data manipulation 
  • Understanding of core financial principles including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial reporting 
  • Comfortable working with raw, unstructured data and translating it into meaningful outputs 
  • Reliable home office setup with stable internet connectivity suitable for remote work 
  • Ability to work during UK Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) business hour

Preferred Experience

  • Exposure to EPOS data, retail data, or any transactional dataset in a work or academic context 
  • Experience using Google Sheets or basic data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau 
  • Previous internship, graduate program, or work experience in a data, finance, or analytical role 
  • Familiarity with cost analysis concepts such as cost per kg, unit economics, or channel profitability
