Accountable To: Home Manager

You will need to be a driver with your own vehicle for this role due to the location of the Care Home.

Main Purpose of the Role:

To assist the head chef in providing, managing and developing a high-quality catering service to residents, guests and visitors to the home. To operate a safe, professional and cost affective catering service whilst at all times complying with all statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in this preparation, cooking and attractive presentation of all meals. The majority of dishes will be made in house and home baked products should be available for residents and visitors to the home.
  • To regularly check the layout of the dining room ensuring a welcoming atmosphere with fully laid tables in line with company standards.
  • To provide regular interaction with residents to gain feedback regarding the food service and make any necessary changes accordingly.
  • Ensure a high standard of cleanliness is maintained within the kitchen at all times.
  • Ensure all meals are planned and cooked in line with planned menus.
  • Ensure that all specialist dietary requirements of residents are catered for.
  • Managing and leading the team you are responsible for.
  • To collect feedback from residents and relatives and to reflect this in menus and food on offer.
  • To actively participate in Resident of the Day process.

Stock control:

  • Be aware of and work with the head chef to ensure to ensure that the food budget is adhered to. Assist in the ordering of supplies, using nominated and approved suppliers.
  • Keep stock secure at all times, store appropriately and avoid unnecessary wastage and deterioration of foodstuff.
  • Ensure equipment is used appropriately and for its designed use. Report equipment defects to the head chef and withdraw from use immediately.

Training:

  • To ensure that mandatory training is kept up to date and that all additional training provided is attended.

General:

  • Be aware of and at all times comply with all company rules, policies and procedures, including statutory requirements of the health and safety at work act, care standards act and the relevant regulations.
  • To take active part in companys Champion role system and to carry on tasks relevant to this system.
  • Show courtesy and respect to residents and relatives and maintain the confidentially of residents and their families at all times.
  • Greet all visitors in a friendly, courteous and efficient manner and promote the company at the home positively in the local community.
  • Maintain good working relationship with all colleagues, residents and relatives at all times.
