Activus Recruitment are seeking a skilled Welder / Hardfacer / Workshop Technician to join our clients team based in Blackburn, Aberdeen for a full-time, permanent role.

This individual will be responsible for performing welding and hardfacing operations, with the primary purpose of the servicing, maintaining and repairing roller cone drill bits and hole openers. You will be a key member of a small flexible team where duties and responsibilities will vary from driving a forklift to preparing and painting equipment prior to despatch and any other duties to fulfil our customer requirements.
The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of welding techniques and safety protocols while working under minimum supervision ensuring high-quality workmanship in all tasks.
You will be required to carry out your duties while working in accordance with company HSEQ policies and procedures to ensure a safe and environmentally sound working environment. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager.
Competency and experience in roller cone bits and hole openers would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform welding tasks using MIG, and stick welding methods plus electric and gas oxy acetylene cutting
  • Service and repair of Roller Cone Bits. Including removing, inspecting, re-installing compensators and grease.
  • Re-tipping of Roller Cone Mill Tooth Bits
  • Manufacture and repair of Roller Cone Bit Breakers
  • Service and repair of Hole Openers and Hole Opener Cutters.
  • Execute hardfacing processes to restore worn or damaged surfaces, ensuring durability and longevity.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications to determine appropriate welding techniques.
  • Maintain and repair workshop machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Operate forklift truck when required to load and offload equipment.
  • Follow safety guidelines and best practices to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with team members to support various projects and contribute to a positive team atmosphere.

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in welding and hardfacing, preferably in a workshop or industrial setting.
  • Proficient in various welding techniques (MIG and stick) and familiar with hardfacing procedures and oxy acetylene cutting.
  • Knowledge of roller cone drill bits, bit breakers and hole openers preferred.
  • Ability to operate various hand tools and overhead crane
  • Forklift certificate preferred
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision to meet the company objectives
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities, with a focus on collaboration.
  • UK Driving License required

This position is based in the workshop facility in Blackburn, with a focus on safety and teamwork. Candidates should be comfortable working in a physically demanding environment.
