Summary

ACT employs a team of Residence Assistants (RAs) to support ACT students, particularly those who live in ACT Housing, and to support the overall function of the Student Services. The RAs live in the residence halls and support the academic success, social development and personal growth of students by creating programs and experiences within a diverse community of learners. RAs actively participate in the development of a comprehensive residence life program. The RA position, due to its live-in nature, requires willingness to be called into service at any time of the day or night in order to meet students' needs as they arise, especially in times of emergency and when the campus may be closed. The RA is expected to possess a positive attitude which embraces the ACT spirit and philosophy and thus serve as a role model, abiding by all ACT rules, regulations and policies. RAs are expected to adopt the goals of maintaining a supportive system and a safe, comfortable living and learning environment. The RA helps to fulfill the ACT mission for education and service.

You will report to: Residence Life & Safety Senior Officer

Contract Details: Full Time, definite duration. Contracts vary in duration from two months to eleven months. Summer Contracts are for the period of June and July. Academic Year contracts start in mid-August and vary in duration from four months to eleven months. The duration will be discussed during the interview process and will be based on the needs of the department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

RESIDENCE LIFE

  • Attend and participate in staff training sessions and in regular staff meetings.

  • Live in ACT Housing throughout the semester and be available to residents on a daily basis. Act as a liaison for ACT, ensuring professionalism and confidentiality.

  • Contribute actively to the operations of the Residence Life Program, including supporting housing set up, student arrivals, orientation, cultural activities, program logistics, maintenance reports, health & safety, community building, and departures.

  • Assist student residents in their adjustments to living in Thessaloniki. This may also include designing outings and organizing events, accompanying students to local appointments at the bank, Immigration Office, hospital, police station, cultural excursions, Service Learning, etc.

  • Supervise the day-to-day function of the residence, responding to all requests and emergencies (e.g. fire, health, safety), and upholding housing rules, regulations and policies. Respond to all violations of ACT policies and report incidents in a timely manner.

  • Participate in the on-call rotation. This includes nights, weekends and holidays.

  • Conduct scheduled & unscheduled room inspections, working with students to address issues, and reporting maintenance or safety concerns.

  • Support the positive relationships between the housing management/owners and ACT.

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

  • Actively design, advertise and promote involvement in ACT events & activities, including Spirit Days, holidays and special events.

  • Inspire residents to be active participants by conducting periodic meetings for the purpose of planning events, disseminating pertinent College information and policies to students to enhance their social, educational and personal development and connect them to the ACT community.

  • Accompany students on weekend trips and manage logistics

  • Promote wellness initiatives by coordinating with ACTs counselor, to organize activities and providing resources to help students manage stress, mental health and physical well-being.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

  • Perform administrative tasks as assigned. Tasks are related to office operations, calendars, logistics, Reception Desk support, proctoring, bus monitoring, event registration, meal monitoring, etc.

  • Take photographs and videos to create social media content. Sort, edit and store media. Write news articles and/or conduct interviews for the ACT web page.

  • Record spending and maintain a budget

Educational Background

  • Must have completed at least 1 year of college.

  • Must be in good standing if the applicant is a current student.


Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate in English and Greek. Additional languages are valued, but not required.

  • Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work well both in a team and individually

  • Leadership and public speaking skills

  • Ability to use authority with good judgment.

  • Ability to quickly evaluate crises and respond appropriately.

  • IT Skills: Advanced knowledge of the Google Suite required. Canva and photo editing skills preferred.

  • Photography

  • Possess effective communication skills in order to successfully approach people and establish good rapport with them, mediate conflict situations and enforce College and housing policies.
