Position Overview:

For our operations in Melbourne we are seeking an experienced Head of Operations / Senior Accountant to lead our growing team of 6 employees. This individual will play a critical role in delivering high-quality financial services for their mainly international clients, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and insightful financial management. This role is ideal for a service-oriented finance professional who thrives in a client-facing capacity and has a track record of successfully managing both financial processes and a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis
    • Oversee and produce accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for clients, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and client requirements.
    • Analyze and interpret financial data to provide insights, forecasts, and recommendations for clients.
    • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of all client reports, managing deadlines, and addressing client inquiries with clarity and expertise.
  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Manage and mentor a team of six team members, providing direction, support, and training to enhance team performance and professional growth.
    • Foster a collaborative environment, ensuring effective communication and workload management across the team.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews, set team goals, and create development plans for team members.
  • Client Management
    • Act as the primary financial contact for client accounts, handling complex queries and building strong client relationships.
    • Collaborate with clients to understand their unique financial needs and customize reporting solutions accordingly.
    • Manage and resolve any client concerns, continuously improving the client experience.
  • Financial Operations
    • Oversee daily financial operations, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
    • Preparation and lodgement of IAS/BASs, SGC, WHT, payroll tax, etc
    • Ensure compliance with all statutory regulations and company policies in financial practices and reporting.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
    • Develop and maintain budgets, monitor financial performance, and provide regular updates to clients and senior leadership.
    • Create financial forecasts and variance analysis reports to assist clients in effective financial planning.
    • Evaluate financial risk factors and work with clients to mitigate risks through effective financial strategies.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum 10 years of accounting or finance experience, ideally with a focus on service delivery.
    • Proven experience managing a small team (5-10 employees) and fostering a collaborative team culture.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Strong knowledge of financial software and tools, such as Xero, QuickBooks, or MYOB; advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
    • Thorough understanding of Australian accounting standards, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Client-Focused:
    • Demonstrated experience in a client-facing role, preferably in a service provider setting.
    • Ability to communicate complex financial information in a clear, understandable manner for clients.
  • Leadership Skills:
    • Proven leadership abilities with a strong focus on team development, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
    • High level of organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA or CA designation is highly preferred.
  • Registered BAS or tax agent
  • Experience within a service-oriented firm or financial services provider is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills, with a proactive approach to improving processes and client satisfaction.
