Database Administrator Job Description:
We are seeking a Database Administrator to manage the database infrastructure for our health claim management solution. You will set up, configure, optimize, audit and disaster recover database environments, including NoSQL databases (MongoDB) and SQL databases (PostgreSQL).
Ensure availability, integrity, security, optimal performance, compliance and sustainability of mission-critical data used across the solution while minimizing risks and costs.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with architects, developers, business analysts and information security teams to understand data requirements, schemas, relationships, queries, reports, integrations, policies and key metrics. Determine appropriate database technologies (document DBs, wide-column stores, key-value stores, etc.) and configurations to meet needs securely and sustainably.
Install, configure, monitor and optimize database instances on-premises or on cloud infrastructure (AWS RDS, Azure DB, GCP Dedicated Hosts). Setup high availability for production databases with replication, multi-AZ deployment and failover.
Administer user access, activity monitoring, security, auditing and permissions for database accounts and roles. Enforce policies including authentication, authorization, encryption, access control, audit trails and anomaly detection. Prevent unauthorized access or malicious activity.
Provide disaster recovery through backup scripts, replication, cloud disaster recovery and business continuity planning. Recover databases rapidly and accurately in the event of outages or corruptions.
Migrate databases between on-premises and cloud environments or different technologies (MongoDB to SQL, etc.) while minimizing downtime and data loss. Conduct impact analyses, planning and testing to ensure a successful migration.
Apply database tuning tools, metrics and best practices to optimize costs, performance, storage usage and scale. Upgrade/consolidate hardware and database versions as needed.
Advise developers and analysts on best practices for database design, modeling schemas, auditing data and querying efficiently. Review solutions for compliance, quality, auditability, performance and sustainability.
Stay up-to-date with innovations in database management, administration, security, compliance, disaster recovery, performance optimization and emerging technologies. Maintain expertise through continuous learning and strategic networking.
3-5 years of experience as a Database Administrator or similar role. Certifications in the database technologies used (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, etc.) preferred. Additional technical qualifications and skills as listed.
