About the job Intermediate Tax Accountant

We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Virtual Accountant with experience supporting Australian clients and accounting firms. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of Australian taxation and compliance requirements, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple client engagements while working independently in a remote environment.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Virtual Accountant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, companies, trusts, and SMSFs
  • Preparing financial statements for companies, partnerships, trusts, and other entities
  • Preparing and reviewing BAS and IAS for lodgement
  • Compiling workpapers and year-end accounts for manager and partner review
  • Liaising with clients regarding accounting, taxation, and compliance matters
  • Assisting with FBT returns and other tax compliance requirements
  • Preparing reconciliations, journal entries, and adjusting entries
  • Maintaining chart of accounts, general ledgers, and fixed asset registers
  • Performing bank reconciliations and account reconciliations
  • Assisting with cash flow management, budgeting, and financial forecasting
  • Providing bookkeeping services for small and medium-sized businesses
  • Using Xero, MYOB, and other accounting software to prepare financial reports and tax compliance documents
  • Drafting client correspondence and supporting administrative tasks as required

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of accounting experience
  • Previous experience working with an Australian accounting firm is required
  • Strong knowledge of Australian taxation and compliance requirements
  • Experience preparing individual, company, partnership, trust, and SMSF tax returns
  • Experience preparing BAS, IAS, and FBT returns
  • Experience preparing financial statements and working papers
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping and reconciliation processes
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Experience using Xero
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently in a remote environment
