We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join our growing team. This role is ideal for someone with strong Australian public practice experience who can manage tax compliance, review work, and provide trusted advice to clients.

Job Description: 

  • Prepare and review income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, companies, trusts, and self-managed super funds (SMSFs), ensuring compliance with current ATO legislation.
  • Prepare and review financial statements for partnerships, companies, trusts, and SMSFs, including maintaining general ledgers, chart of accounts, and fixed asset registers.
  • Review work papers and year-end accounts prepared by junior accountants before manager or partner review.
  • Prepare and review tax compliance obligations, including:
    • Income Tax Returns
    • BAS and IAS lodgements
    • GST reconciliations
    • Division 7A calculations
    • Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns
  • Liaise directly with clients, providing timely responses to queries and delivering practical taxation and business advice.
  • Manage correspondence and lodgements with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and ASIC on behalf of clients.
  • Assist with financial reporting, cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis.
  • Process payroll and payroll-related compliance for clients where required.
  • Mentor, train, and supervise junior accounting and bookkeeping staff, ensuring work quality and meeting deadlines.
  • Support managers in overseeing workflow, reviewing work, and maintaining high service standards.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency across the firm.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while identifying opportunities to provide additional value-added services.
  • Maintain proactive communication with clients regarding compliance obligations, business performance, and taxation matters.
  • Stay current with changes to Australian taxation legislation, accounting standards, and industry developments through ongoing professional development.
  • Assist with client proposals, budgeting, billing, and achieving monthly and quarterly performance targets.

  • Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5 years' experience working within an Australian public practice accounting firm.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing:
    • Individual, Company, Trust and Partnership Tax Returns
    • BAS and IAS
    • GST reconciliations
    • Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) Returns
    • Financial Statements
  • CA or CPA qualified, or currently in the final stages of completion.
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian taxation legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Practical experience using Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, and other accounting software.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A proactive, self-motivated, and client-focused approach.
  • Proven ability to mentor, coach, and lead junior team members.
  • A collaborative attitude with the confidence to work autonomously when required.
