Overview
Inner West Council is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Greenskeeping Trainee. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about working outdoors and contributing to the maintenance and enhancement of our sporting fields, gardens, and public spaces. As a Greenskeeping Trainee, you will develop valuable skills while supporting the team with day-to-day operations in the upkeep of council horticultural and greenkeeping assets.
This is a 12-month supported program, in which you will receive continuous assistance throughout this journey.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Services
- Provide maintenance for sports fields, turf wickets, and garden beds.
- Perform street cleaning tasks, including mowing, planting, mulching, fertilising, spraying herbicides/pesticides, and watering.
Expertise and Input
- Contribute professional input and expertise to improve the maintenance of council horticultural and greenkeeping assets.
Safety and Environmental Compliance
- Commit to Inner West Council's Workplace Health, Safety, and Environmental Systems, ensuring a safe and sustainable working environment.
Selection Criteria
Education and Training
- Willingness to complete a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management.
- Qualifications in Horticulture, Greenkeeping, or a Parks & Gardens Trade Certificate (or its equivalent) are desirable.
Skills and Attributes
- A genuine interest in greenskeeping and a love for working in outdoor environments.
- Physical ability to walk, bend, lift, and perform repetitive tasks as required by the role.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to represent Inner West Council professionally when dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of safety procedures with a willingness to learn and apply them effectively.
