Overview
Inner West Council is offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Engineering Trainee. This role provides hands-on experience and exposure to various aspects of civil engineering, including asset repairs, road defects, and stormwater drainage projects. As part of our engineering team, you will contribute to the planning and development of future infrastructure works while gaining valuable skills in design documentation, software tools, and project coordination.
This 12-month supported program includes continuous assistance and guidance to help you succeed in your role and develop a strong foundation for your engineering career.
Key Responsibilities
Asset Repairs and Renewals Support
- Assist the engineering team in assessing and measuring road defects, as well as reviewing survey reports.
- Prepare scope plans for future works, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project objectives.
- Conduct quantity and cost estimations to support project planning and budgeting.
Design Documentation and Software Exposure
- Gain experience in preparing design documentation for roads, stormwater drainage, and traffic-related projects.
- Work with software tools such as CAD and GIS to support design and documentation processes.
General Support and Development
- Provide assistance to the engineering team on various projects as needed.
- Follow and uphold safety procedures and protocols in all work activities.

Education and Skills
- A genuine interest in engineering and a passion for the field.
- Computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
- Ability to represent Inner West Council professionally while building positive relationships with team members and clients.
