Ability Advocates is seeking dedicated and experienced Job Coaches to join our team. We provide a variety of services aimed at making the world better for people with disabilities and their families, one person, one family, one workplace, and one community at a time.

Position Purpose

The Job Coach plays a pivotal role in coordinating all supports and activities that aid the clients transition to employment. This role involves working with a broader support team, including psychologists, occupational therapists, and other allied health professionals, therapy assistants, support workers, recruitment, and training specialists. The Job Coach also establishes connections with workplaces, employers, and the clients broader support system as needed. They support the clients job search goals, facilitating individual and group programs and activities and coaching both clients and employers to set up the client for success in the workplace.

Tasks and Accountabilities

  1. Support Individuals: Understand the unique needs, strengths, and aspirations of individuals with disabilities, and provide tailored support to help them reach their employment and personal goals.
  2. Inclusive Workplaces: Advocate for the needs and rights of individuals with disabilities, and provide guidance and resources to managers and businesses to foster a diverse and inclusive environment.
  3. Career Development Plans: Assess the individuals skills and interests, set realistic and achievable career goals, and develop and implement a clear and structured plan to help them reach these goals.
  4. Coordination of Supports: Work closely with a team of professionals, including psychologists, occupational therapists, and other allied health professionals, therapy assistants, support workers, recruitment, and training specialists, to coordinate all supports and activities that aid the clients transition to employment.
  5. Establish Connections: Build relationships with potential employers, facilitate job placements, and ensure that the client has the necessary support system in place to succeed in the workplace.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Disability Support Knowledge: Experience or interest in disability support and/or employment services, recruitment and workplace training. Understand the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, and the strategies and resources that can help them transition to the workplace.
  2. Communication Skills: Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey information effectively to clients, employers, and team members.
  3. Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with a diverse range of professionals to provide comprehensive support to clients.
  4. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify problems, generate solutions, and make sound decisions that benefit the client.
  5. Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, adjust support strategies as needed, and remain resilient in the face of setbacks.

  • Position Title: Job Coach
  • Work Location(s): Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane (as allocated), flexible depending on client plan
  • Employment Type: Permanent Part-time or Casual
  • Working Hours: On a fortnightly roster
  • Work Setting(s): Individual participant(s) home, Community settings, Activity centre(s), Central or head office, Workplaces and businesses
  • Pay Range/Award: SCHADS Award Level 2 or 3 dependent on qualifications and experience
