Horticulture Trainee

Ability Advocates, in collaboration with Inner West Council is thrilled to offer an innovative 12-month trainee program designed to help people with disabilities thrive in the workplace, and to foster inclusive workplaces.

With quarterly intakes and paid traineeships and wrap around supports for both the trainee and Inner West Council including specialised team of allied health professionals, recruitment, employment and disability specialists traineeships are designed to have a positive outcome for the applicants and Inner West Council.

An opportunity exists for an eager trainee to join the team in the Parks and Streetscapes Team where you will be able to work with highly qualified trades supervisors and apply your learnings in your role. The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys working outdoors, has a keen interest in landscaping, planting, and renovation of play fields.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Provision of horticultural/landscaping services including of mowing, planting, mulching, fertilising, spraying (herbicide/pesticide), and watering duties.
  • Plan interpreting and understanding of instructions given by maintenance teams
  • General cleaning and maintenance of trucks and plant equipment
  • But more importantly commitment to Inner West Council Workplace Health, Safety and Environmental Systems.

What we are looking for:

  • An enthusiastic candidate who has a genuine interest in the field and enjoys the outdoor environment
  • Physical functional requirement including ability to walk, bend, lift and perform repetitive tasks as required part of the role.
  • Ability to represent Inner West Council in a professional manner when dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good communication skills
  • Drivers Licence Class C
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and willingness to learn
