Ability Advocates, in collaboration with Inner West Council is thrilled to offer an innovative 12-month trainee program designed to help people with disabilities thrive in the workplace, and to foster inclusive workplaces.

With quarterly intakes and paid traineeships and wrap around supports for both the trainee and Inner West Council including specialised team of allied health professionals, recruitment, employment and disability specialists traineeships are designed to have a positive outcome for the applicants and Inner West Council.

An opportunity exists for an eager trainee to join the team in the Civil Works Area where you will be able to work with highly diverse teams where you will be contributing to making a real difference while rapidly building your skills. We welcome individuals ranging from students transitioning out of school to mature individuals seeking to enhance their skills or shift careers!

Your responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the maintenance and construction of roads, footpaths, cycleways, kerb and guttering and bridge structures and other council assets
  • Learn to identify and solve construction-related issues efficiently, ensuring the safety and quality of Inner West Council Projects.
  • Prioritise safety protocols to maintain a secure working environment for yourself and the team.
  • Working outdoors in a wide variety of locations and environments
  • Develop skills and knowledge relating to the Civil Construction Industry.
  • Operate and maintain plant and equipment
  • Collaborate with a team to ensure all work health & safety practices are adhered to
  • Communicate effectively with team members to achieve project goals and maintain a positive working atmosphere.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A passion for civil construction and a strong desire to learn and grow in the field.
  • Be a reliable team player with a motivated attitude to contribute to our projects and achieve excellence.
  • Prioritise safety in all aspects of work, ensuring a secure environment for yourself and your team.
  • Good communication skills are essential to collaborate with team members and clients.
  • Ability to work and interact effectively as a team member
  • Hold a construction industry White Card or the ability to obtain
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills both oral and written
  • Capability to work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Ability to perform a range of general labouring and maintenance duties
  • Year 10 Higher School Certificate or equivalent, as a minimum
  • Physically fit and healthy for performing manual labour work
  • Commitment to principles and practices of work health and safety
  • Behaviour that positively demonstrates values of respect, inclusivity, and safety
  • A current drivers licence desirable but not essential.
  • Presents a positive image of the council to the public
