About 29 Bedford Row:
29 Bedford Row provide specialist expertise throughout the field of family law and are principally known for their work in substantial financial remedy cases and complex children law disputes. They are a set comprising 63 barristers (including 10 KCs) and a highly regarded clerking, administrative, and reception team of 11.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Senior Clerk and/or Deputy Senior Clerk, the Junior Clerk will provide support to the clerks in the operation of the clerks' room and to Members of Chambers as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivering Members of Chambers' papers to court and collecting them at the end of the court day as required.
- Photocopying as required, preparing and collating bundles of authorities for use in court.
- Getting fee notes ready for dispatch if not done electronically; sorting and preparing all mail, whether post or DX; monitoring the franking machine keeping topped up with credit; taking special and recorded deliveries to the post office; attending to misdirected mail daily. Recording daily post and DX in appropriate documentation.
- Checking stationery supplies once a week and placing the appropriate order; ensuring all stationery in cupboards fully stocked (e.g. files, counsels' notebooks etc.); putting away stationery orders as soon as possible after delivery/checking off; controlling stock of light bulbs. Ensuring these areas are kept tidy and accessible at all times.
- Making regular deliveries of papers to Members of Chambers' rooms.
- Ensuring photocopiers and printers are filled with paper throughout the building.
- Making "by hand" deliveries where requested.
- Ensuring trolleys are secured at the end of the day.
- Keeping the clerks' room generally tidy.
- Assisting other clerks with duties as necessary.
Required Skills:
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- A willingness to learn and take initiative.
- Able to work well under pressure and manage changing priorities in a fast-paced chambers environment.
- Good administrative and IT skills.
