About the role:

To oversee and manage daily operations of the legal Accounts team. Responsibilities include monitoring and analysing data, producing financial reports and providing explanations on them,

  • Reporting to the Managing Partner and Compliance Officers
  • To assist and support the Accounts team and responsibilities include:
  • Controlling and reconciling deposit accounts
  • Checking bills (and credit notes) and allocating bill numbers
  • Sending CHAPS, BACS & International payments using Barclays.net
  • Dealing with incoming CHAPS payments
  • Reconciling client and office accounts
  • Interest calculations
  • Purchase Ledger
  • Month and Year end reconciliations
  • Liaising with Accountants on Solicitors Accountants Rules (SAR) Audit
  • Liaising with Accountants for quarterly Management Accountants
  • Monthly management reports and briefings for Partner Meetings
  • Monthly fee-earner information packs
  • Providing financial figures for Practice Managers/Partners as required
  • VAT returns
  • Checking completion statements
  • Managing workloads of team ensuring compliance throughout
  • Accounts inductions for new staff & training as required
  • Working with the Practice Manager and Accountants on Budgets and cashflow forecasting
  • Working with the Practice Manager on bonus calculations
  • Preparing information for outsourced Payroll


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience essential
  • Working knowledge of a fully integrated Case Management System is preferable
  • An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Solicitors Accounts Rules SAR, practical application, and compliance with the regulations
  • Familiarity with technology e.g Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, Adobe
  • Ability to work as part of a team, under presure and be proactive
  • Attention to detail with logical and methodical approach and excellent numeracy skills
  • Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to balance day to day and project tasks
  • Clear communication and approachable demeanour
  • Carrying out meaningful Appraisals for the Accounts team and setting objectives
