Reporting to the Senior Practice Manager and under the supervision of the Practice Management team, the Junior Clerk will assist in the efficient operation of the Clerks room and the delivery of a high quality service to members of Chambers and their clients, whilst also beginning to develop an understanding of the various aspects of clerking responsibilities and laying the foundations for a career in chambers.
The successful candidate can expect to carry out the following tasks on a day-to-day basis;
- Court Runs: take and collect members papers to and from Court
- Document management: ensure that documents delivered to Chambers or received by email or fax are dealt with promptly, appropriately, and efficiently
- DX and mail: dealing with post going through DX, Royal Mail or couriers
- Office Equipment: ensure that photocopiers, printers, and fax machines are always operational and that faults are reported
- To assist in general clerking duties, when required
- Answering the telephone and relaying messages
- Assisting the Administration, Operations and Marketing Teams as required
Further details:
- Working hours will be between 8am and 6:30pm on a rota with a 1 hour lunch break each day
- The successful applicant will be subject to relevant clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service
Person specification:
- A preference for candidates to have minimum of two A-Levels or strong BTEC equivalent
- A preference for candidates to hold GCSEs in English and Maths at Grade C, or above
- Strong oral and written communications skills, and appropriate telephone manner
- Good IT literacy
- Confidence in working both as part of a team and independently without supervision
- The ability to multi-task and work well under pressure combined with a flexible and co-operative attitude
