About The Firm
Our client is a long-established and respected Essex law firm with offices in Epping and Loughton. Established in 1920, the firm is built on the values of Excellence, Reputation and Trust and provides a broad range of legal services to both private and commercial clients.
They are seeking an experienced and proactive Risk & Compliance Officer to support and strengthen the firm's compliance and risk management framework. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with legal compliance and AML experience to play a key role within a growing and forward-thinking solicitors' practice.
The Role
The successful candidate will work closely with senior management and key compliance personnel to ensure the firm remains compliant with all regulatory and legal obligations, including anti-money laundering requirements, SRA compliance standards, and wider risk management procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing and overseeing the firm's AML and compliance procedures
- Conducting client due diligence (CDD) and enhanced due diligence (EDD)
- Reviewing source of funds and source of wealth information
- Carrying out sanctions and politically exposed persons (PEP) checks
- Assisting with file reviews, audits, and compliance monitoring
- Supporting the firm's MLRO, COLP and senior management team
- Maintaining and updating compliance policies and procedures
- Advising fee earners and staff on regulatory and AML matters
- Monitoring regulatory developments and implementing necessary changes
- Delivering compliance and AML training to staff where required
- Managing conflict checks and wider risk management processes
- Assisting with GDPR and data protection compliance matters
- Preparing reports and maintaining accurate compliance records
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience within a law firm compliance or AML role
- Strong working knowledge of:
- SRA Standards and Regulations
- UK Money Laundering Regulations
- Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA)
- Sanctions compliance requirements
- Excellent organisational and analytical skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Confident communication skills and a professional manner
- Experience using legal compliance and onboarding systems is desirable
Desirable Qualifications
- ICA or equivalent AML/compliance qualification
- Previous experience supporting an MLRO, COLP or COFA
- Experience within a multi-office legal practice
