About the Role:

TL4 are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Finance Assistant to support their busy finance team within a fast-paced conference and events environment.

This is a hands-on role that plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the delivery of events, and ensuring smooth financial operations across both UK and international activities. The ideal candidate will be organised, inquisitive, and capable of taking ownership of tasks from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Ledger

  • Accurately allocate incoming receipts within the accounting system
    • Investigate and resolve discrepancies, including payment shortfalls, currency differences, etc.
    • Investigate unidentified receipts

Purchase Ledger

  • Ensure supplier invoices and staff expense claims are integrated correctly to Xero in a timely manner
    • Ensure correct coding, including nominal accounts, billing / event IDs
  • Support supplier payment runs by:
    • Prioritising payments based on event timelines
    • Matching invoices against supplier statements
    • Flagging discrepancies for resolution

Bank and Cash

  • Perform regular bank reconciliations, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are promptly investigated and resolved
  • Maintain accuracy of expense card (Soldo) postings in Xero, ensuring correct nominal coding, billing allocations, and VAT treatment
  • Ensure all expenses are fully supported by valid receipts or invoices to meet audit and compliance requirements

Credit Control

  • Ensure credit control procedures are adhered and that invoices are collected within agreed credit terms
  • Resolve customer invoice queries promptly to minimise delays in payment

General Finance Support

  • Assist with month-end close, including journal postings
  • Perform timely reconciliations of balance sheet accounts
  • Support the preparation of management accounts and reporting packs
  • Compile event gross profit (GP) reports and investigate variances
  • Assist with VAT compliance, including:
    • Supporting UK VAT return submissions
    • Ensuring proforma invoices are replaced with valid VAT invoices
    • Assisting with foreign VAT reporting and deadlines
  • Monitor Finance email inbox
  • Provide ad hoc finance support across the wider business as required

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Part-qualified ACCA (or equivalent)
  • 3 years' experience in a finance role (events, media, or similar industry preferred)
  • Strong accountancy knowledge up to trial balance stage
  • Experience supporting month-end processes and management reporting
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g. Xero)
  • High level of accuracy with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to identify and implement process improvements
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks and see them through to completion
  • Comfortable working to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams
  • Good working knowledge of UK VAT; exposure to international VAT is advantageous
