About the job Junior/ Graduate Civil Engineer
Role and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will join a team who provides engineering services to a range of clients with a focus on environmental site remediation, water/wastewater treatment systems, environmental compliance, and landfill operation/closure

Performing civil engineering design calculations and modeling, including stormwater hydrology and hydraulics calculations, geotechnical analyses, geosynthetic design, and pump and pipe analyses

Assisting with the preparation of engineering reports, cost estimates, permit documents, design drawings & specifications, bid documents, and proposals with senior technical mentoring and review
-
Conducting field assignments to support project specific data collection requirements, including groundwater and soil sampling, borehole logging, test pit logging, site reconnaissance, geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, and construction quality assurance (CQA) monitoring

Reviewing and responding to contractor submittals for consistency with construction documents and regulations
-
Being willing and able to work on projects involving landfills and other lined structures, underground facilities, and other civil applications

Working with an in-house team of cross-discipline engineers/scientists and on-site contractors with minimal supervision

Safely perform work in the office and field; fieldwork may occur out-of-town in all seasonal weather conditions, using equipment (with an ability to lift and move approximately 50 pounds without assistance) and operating vehicles on behalf of the company

Local and national travel (up to 25% of the time) with possible opportunities for long-term assignments at project sites

Perform routine engineering functions and provide entry-level technical assistance on various design requirements, operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, systems, and infrastructure

Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site and providing basic technical assistance on various engineering, design, and construction issues

Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebook/logs

Complete training on assigned tasks

Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to the company’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Knowledge & Experience
-
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or equivalent, with an emphasis in soil mechanics, hydraulics and hydrology
-
0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience
-
Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical and be medically able to wear a tight-fitting respirator
-
Must successfully complete and pass the company’s Motor Vehicle screening
-
Excellent research skills with analytical mindset

Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience

Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment

Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives

Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by the company’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek

Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements

Willingness to work on projects across business sectors, performing a variety of tasks, sometimes on short notice

Computer skills and experience with industry standard commercial computer software including Microsoft Office EIT certification or ability to obtain EIT within two years

Engineer in Training Certification

Master’s degree in civil engineering, or equivalent with an emphasis in soil mechanics, hydraulics and hydrology

Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline

40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training is required on some sites; preferential consideration for candidates with this training

Experience and proficiency with AutoCAD and other engineering software
