About the job Senior Project Engineer
Senior Project Engineer / Manager
Civil Infrastructure | Sydney, NSW | 12-Month Fixed Term Contract | Up to $180,000 + Super
IBG is working with an established infrastructure services contractor to appoint a Senior Project Engineer / Manager into its Sydney transport infrastructure team.
The role sits within a long-term road asset maintenance and performance program. Day-to-day work centres on managing pre-delivery activities for maintenance and improvement works across an existing road network — bridges, culverts, slopes and pavements — rather than greenfield construction. If your background is primarily in major D&C projects, this role requires a genuine shift in context: the focus is on maintaining and improving existing assets, managing environmental approvals, evaluating design options within maintenance constraints, and delivering to a state government client under an ongoing performance contract.
This is a 12-month fixed term position covering a parental leave absence, with potential for ongoing engagement at the conclusion of the contract.
About the role
Pre-delivery ownership across assigned road infrastructure maintenance works — planning, design oversight, stakeholder coordination and handover readiness. You'll review designs against Austroads, AS/NZS codes and state authority requirements, evaluate design options in a maintenance context, manage environmental approval processes, and keep deliverables on track for quality and completeness before works commence.
Direct client and authority liaison is a consistent part of the role. So is working within the constraints of an operational road network — approvals, community impact, traffic management and asset condition all shape how projects are scoped and delivered. Mentoring junior engineers is expected.
Key responsibilities
- Lead pre-delivery planning for road infrastructure maintenance works: schedules, resource plans, risk registers
- Evaluate design options and manage design solutions for compliance, constructability and maintenance context requirements
- Manage environmental approvals and regulatory requirements relevant to works on an operational road network
- Identify and resolve design risks and technical issues before works commence
- Monitor and report pre-delivery progress to management and state government client
- Manage client, contractor and authority relationships through pre-delivery
- Ensure drawings, reports, specifications and cost estimates meet quality and handover standards
- Mentor and develop junior engineers

- Sound knowledge of Austroads, AS/NZS codes and state road authority standards
- Track record leading multidisciplinary teams and managing concurrent technical deliverables
- Confident client, contractor and regulatory authority liaison
- Engineering degree (Civil or Structural)
- Experience with state government infrastructure clients well regarded
- Mentoring or team development experience well regarded
Benefits
- Up to $180,000 + super
- 12-month fixed term with potential for ongoing engagement
- Diverse road asset portfolio under a long-term government performance contract
- State government client engagement at contract level
- Novated leasing and corporate discounts across retail, health insurance and travel
- Paid parental, cultural, study, community service and purchased leave options
- Inclusive workplace with active diversity and recognition programmes
