About the job Business Development Manager - Mid sized Civil Contractor
Be the Person Who Opens the Door Before the Market Moves
Some companies wait for tenders to be released.
Others are already in the room, helping shape the project before it ever reaches the market.
Our client sits firmly in the second category.
With a strong track record across civil construction, infrastructure, and resource-driven projects, the next phase of growth in Queensland is about deepening relationships, expanding market presence, and securing the right opportunities early.
As Business Development Manager, you'll be at the centre of that.
This Is About Positioning, Not Pitching
This isn't a transactional sales role.
It's about
- Understanding where the market is heading before it becomes visible
- Building trusted relationships across government, resources, and private clients
- Positioning the business early, so when projects move, you're already part of the conversation
You won't be measured on activity.
You'll be measured on access, influence, and outcomes.
Why This Role Matters
Our client is continuing to expand its footprint in Queensland.
Success will come from
- Securing a strong forward pipeline
- Building long-term client relationships
- Entering the right projects at the right time
Your role is to connect those elements, turning insight and relationships into real work.
What You'll Be Doing (Day to Day)
You'll operate at the front end of the business, where strategy meets opportunity.
You'll:
- Build and maintain relationships with key clients across Queensland
- State and local government agencies
- Resource and energy sector clients
- Tier 1/2 contractors and delivery partners
- Consultants and design firms
- Identify and qualify upcoming opportunities early, before formal procurement
- Develop and execute client engagement plans for priority sectors
- Lead internal go / no-go discussions with senior leadership
- Work closely with estimating and bid teams to shape winning strategies
- Provide market intelligence and insight to inform business decisions
- Maintain and manage a live pipeline of opportunities
- Represent them at industry events, briefings, and forums
- You're not just building a pipeline, you're building the pathway to win the right work.
What Makes This Role Different
Our client brings a reputation built over decades and is expanding across Australia.
In Queensland, that creates a unique opportunity:
You'll be
- Part of a growth story, not maintaining an established position
- Able to shape how the business is seen in the market
- Working across diverse sectors, civil infrastructure, resources, and construction
- Backed by a business with real delivery capability
- This is a role where you can build something meaningful, not just manage relationships.
About You

You likely:
- Have experience in business development, client engagement, or project delivery within civil/infrastructure
- Bring an existing network across Queensland (government, resources, contractors, or consultants)
- Understand how projects are delivered, and where risks and opportunities sit
- Are confident engaging at senior levels with clients and partners
- Think strategically about pipeline and positioning, not just individual tenders
- Are proactive, self-driven, and comfortable working with autonomy
You might come from:
- A civil contractor (BD, PM, or estimator transitioning into BD)
- A resources or infrastructure delivery background
- A consultancy or client-side role with strong stakeholder exposure
What You'll Be Influencing
- The strength and quality of the Queensland pipeline
