The role of RN in the Emergency is to identify medical issues, determine severity, and provide immediate support to minimize negative long-term effects and, if necessary, even sustain life.

While maintaining the ability to work under pressure, you will provide first line care to patients admitted to our Emergency Room. Here, we strive to treat patients with the compassion and respect they deserve. You will utilize advanced practice skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to meet the unique need of each patient. This position collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to ensure patient care plans are implemented and monitored for effectiveness. This position requires 12hr shifts from 7AM-730PM, 11AM-11PM or 7PM-730AM

Job Requirements:

  • Uses the nursing process, critical thinking skills, professional judgment, and the attributes of Careful Nursing to provide care for an assigned population of patients.
  • Assesses patient needs to determine care requirements.
  • Plans care and delegates tasks to ancillary personnel based on patient assessment.
  • Evaluates patient response to care provided and make changes in the plan for care as needed.
  • Promotes patient/family independence through the provision of education related to patient's condition, treatment, medications, and ongoing self-care requirements
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving skills independently.
  • Synthesizes information and resources to care for complex, higher acuity patients.
  • Completes designated unit-specific competencies.
  • Completes at least 16 hours of continuing education, in addition to mandatory in-service requirements, within the last year that is specific to daily clinical practice.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and facilitates discharge planning and patient education.
  • Coordinates discharge planning by identifying discharge needs, implementing/revising, and communicating the plan in collaboration with the patient/family/significant others.
  • Discusses patient progress, problems, and needs with physician and multidisciplinary team members regularly to ensure that goals for discharge are met.
  • Assures high levels of quality of care through compliance with regulatory standards, reference to current research related to patient care outcomes, and participation in the data collection and analysis process of ongoing quality monitoring.
  • Uses supplies cost-effectively and efficiently, and works with the management team to make unit supply level adjustments, additions, and revisions.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree from a professional nursing program (required)
  • BSN or current enrollment in a BSN program at an accredited school of Nursing (preferred)
  • Current Registered Nurse License in this state (Illinois)
  • BLS and ACLS (required)
  • 1-3 year of ER Experience (required)
  • SANE Certification and ability to be on call.
