About the job Remote | Licensed Chemical Engineer & AI Evaluation Specialist — $60–$85/hour

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for licensed US chemical engineers with professional experience in process design, process safety, plant operations, technical documentation, and industry-standard simulation tools.

This role supports an AI research initiative focused on improving how advanced systems understand and reason about chemical engineering topics. Selected professionals will evaluate written and AI-generated content, answer technical questions, identify relevant reference materials, and provide practical insight into real-world chemical engineering workflows, standards, and professional decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Chemical Engineering Content Evaluation

  • Review written content and AI-generated responses for technical accuracy, relevance, and professional quality
  • Assess whether calculations, analyses, recommendations, and conclusions reflect sound chemical engineering practice
  • Identify incorrect assumptions, process-design errors, safety concerns, and technical inconsistencies
  • Evaluate content within the candidate's strongest areas of chemical engineering expertise

Domain-Specific Analysis

  • Answer chemical engineering questions using clear, well-reasoned technical explanations
  • Apply professional judgment to process design, plant operations, process safety, and engineering documentation
  • Assess whether responses account for operating conditions, material properties, equipment limitations, and safety requirements
  • Provide corrections and supporting rationale where content requires improvement

Standards & Reference Review

  • Review the application of process-safety standards and industry guidance, including OSHA PSM and relevant API standards
  • Identify reliable technical references appropriate to assigned engineering topics
  • Assess whether cited methods, standards, and assumptions suit the relevant process context
  • Highlight safety, regulatory, operational, and procedural considerations affecting engineering decisions

Engineering Workflows & Tools

  • Share insight into practical chemical engineering workflows, tools, and quality-control processes
  • Evaluate content involving Aspen, MATLAB, process simulators, or comparable engineering software
  • Review process documentation, standard operating procedures, calculations, and technical training materials
  • Collaborate asynchronously with a small group of subject-matter experts across different fields

Ideal Profile

Strong candidates may have:

  • At least 2 years of professional chemical engineering experience
  • An active Professional Engineer licence in the United States
  • Experience in process design, process safety, plant operations, or multiple chemical engineering areas
  • Strong familiarity with process-safety standards, technical documentation, and engineering workflows
  • Practical experience using Aspen, MATLAB, or comparable process-simulation and analytical tools
  • Professional working proficiency in English
  • Strong written communication, technical reasoning, and attention to detail
  • Reliable availability for approximately 10 hours per week
  • Based in the United States

Educational Background

  • A degree in chemical engineering from a recognised institution is required
  • An active US Professional Engineer licence is required
  • Advanced study or professional training in process engineering, process safety, plant operations, or a related area may strengthen an application
  • Continuing education involving engineering standards, simulation tools, safety systems, or process optimisation may also be valuable

Nice to Have

  • Experience across more than one chemical engineering area
  • Background preparing process documentation, standard operating procedures, or technical training materials
  • Familiarity with process hazard analysis, HAZOP, risk assessment, or management of change
  • Experience reviewing or mentoring the work of junior engineers
  • Knowledge of engineering quality assurance, peer review, or process validation
  • Comfort using AI tools such as ChatGPT or comparable systems
  • Previous experience with content evaluation, structured feedback, or AI training projects
  • Experience supporting completed industrial, manufacturing, energy, pharmaceutical, or chemical-processing projects

Why This Opportunity

  • Apply professional chemical engineering expertise to advanced AI research
  • Help improve the accuracy and usefulness of AI-generated engineering content
  • Share practical insight into real-world tools, standards, safety requirements, and workflows
  • Contribute within the chemical engineering area most closely aligned with your experience
  • Collaborate with subject-matter experts across multiple professional fields
  • Participate in a flexible remote engagement with potential for continued work

Contract Details

  • Part-time W-2 contingent employment opportunity
  • Fully remote within the United States
  • Expected commitment of approximately 10 hours per week
  • Competitive rates between $60–$85 per hour depending on expertise and project scope
  • Work may include content evaluation, technical question answering, reference review, and structured feedback
  • Engagement scope and duration may evolve according to project requirements and performance
