Job Openings Remote | Senior FreeCAD Engineer — $40–$100/hour

About the job Remote | Senior FreeCAD Engineer — $40–$100/hour

We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Senior FreeCAD Engineers with strong expertise in parametric CAD modelling, mechanical engineering, GD&T, Design for Manufacturing, assembly design, technical drawings, engineering QA, and CAD automation to contribute to an advanced AI training and mechanical-design project.

Selected professionals will create, modify, validate, and document detailed parametric CAD models and assemblies, applying professional engineering standards to manufacturability, dimensional accuracy, model integrity, and technical documentation. Python scripting experience is highly valuable for automating repetitive or complex CAD workflows, though it is not mandatory. No prior experience in AI is required.

Key Responsibilities

Parametric CAD Modelling

  • Create detailed parametric CAD models in FreeCAD
  • Modify existing models to meet evolving technical requirements
  • Apply robust modelling practices that preserve design intent and editability
  • Maintain geometric accuracy across parts, features, and complex model structures
  • Validate completed models against project specifications

Mechanical Assembly Design

  • Develop and optimise mechanical assemblies
  • Apply strong component-integration and assembly-design principles
  • Define appropriate mechanical relationships, interfaces, and constraints
  • Evaluate assemblies for fit, function, and design consistency
  • Identify opportunities to improve assembly robustness and maintainability

GD&T & Design for Manufacturing

  • Apply rigorous Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles
  • Use Design for Manufacturing best practices throughout modelling workflows
  • Evaluate dimensions, tolerances, and geometric controls for production readiness
  • Identify modelling choices that may create manufacturing or inspection challenges
  • Ensure design intent remains aligned with practical manufacturing requirements

Technical Drawings & Documentation

  • Generate clear and precise technical drawings
  • Prepare supporting engineering documentation for review and downstream processes
  • Communicate dimensions, tolerances, assembly requirements, and design intent accurately
  • Document modelling assumptions and engineering decisions clearly
  • Maintain consistent documentation standards across project deliverables

Engineering QA & Model Validation

  • Conduct detailed QA reviews of CAD models and technical drawings
  • Verify model integrity and compliance with engineering specifications
  • Identify geometric errors, inconsistencies, incomplete constraints, or documentation gaps
  • Communicate issues clearly and contribute to practical resolution
  • Maintain a high standard of accuracy and consistency across engineering outputs

Python & CAD Automation

  • Use Python scripting to automate CAD workflows where appropriate
  • Streamline repetitive or technically complex modelling operations
  • Improve workflow reproducibility and efficiency through automation
  • Support parametrisation and model generation with scripted processes
  • Contribute to scalable CAD workflows for larger engineering-data initiatives

Ideal Profile

  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, product design, industrial engineering, or a closely related field
  • Strong focus on parametric CAD modelling
  • Advanced proficiency in FreeCAD or comparable parametric CAD platforms
  • Strong understanding of mechanical-design fundamentals
  • Practical knowledge of GD&T and Design for Manufacturing principles
  • Experience creating production-oriented technical drawings and engineering documentation
  • Strong assembly-design and component-integration skills
  • Experience conducting engineering QA and validating CAD models against specifications
  • Python scripting or CAD automation experience is highly advantageous but not mandatory
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication
  • Comfortable contributing independently within a remote, project-based environment
  • No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required

Engagement Details

  • Independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Compensation: $40–$100/hour
  • Work will involve FreeCAD modelling, mechanical assembly design, GD&T, DFM, technical drawing generation, engineering QA, and model validation
  • Python-based CAD automation may be used to improve modelling efficiency and reproducibility
  • Strong mechanical-design judgement and parametric CAD expertise are central to this engagement
  • Assignments may include parts, assemblies, technical drawings, validation tasks, and manufacturing-oriented design scenarios
  • Project scope, workload, modelling requirements, and quality standards may evolve depending on project needs
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
