About the job Remote | Technical Sales Representative (Scientific & Industrial Products) — $60–$100/hour
We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced technical sales professionals with strong backgrounds in B2B sales of scientific, industrial, engineering, manufacturing, or other technically complex products.
This role focuses on evaluating sales conversations, emails, proposals, and commercial workflows involving technical and scientific products. Selected professionals will apply real-world sales expertise to assess technical accuracy, customer relevance, commercial effectiveness, and overall quality.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Sales Evaluation
- Evaluate sales conversations and commercial materials involving technical or scientific products
- Assess whether product information is accurate, relevant, and appropriately communicated
- Identify weak positioning, unsupported claims, and ineffective sales approaches
- Review whether recommendations address the customer's technical and commercial needs
- Apply practical judgement developed through B2B technical sales experience
Sales Conversations & Customer Engagement
- Review sales scenarios involving discovery, qualification, objection handling, and closing
- Assess the quality of customer-facing communication
- Evaluate whether questions effectively uncover customer needs and buying criteria
- Identify missed opportunities to clarify technical requirements or commercial priorities
- Assess whether proposed next steps are appropriate for the stage of the sales cycle
Commercial Emails & Proposals
- Evaluate outbound emails, follow-up communications, proposals, and related sales materials
- Assess clarity, persuasiveness, accuracy, and customer relevance
- Review whether technical value propositions are translated into meaningful business benefits
- Identify generic, inaccurate, or poorly targeted messaging
- Evaluate overall professionalism and commercial effectiveness
Comparative Response Review
- Compare alternative sales responses or approaches side by side
- Assess outputs based on technical correctness, sales effectiveness, and customer relevance
- Identify meaningful differences between stronger and weaker approaches
- Determine which response would be more effective in a realistic sales environment
- Provide clear reasoning supporting evaluation decisions
Technical & Scientific Product Context
- Review scenarios involving industrial, engineering, scientific, biological, chemical, electronic, or related products
- Assess whether technical information is presented accurately and at an appropriate level of detail
- Evaluate how effectively product capabilities are connected to customer requirements
- Identify unrealistic assumptions or incorrect technical positioning
- Apply domain-specific sales judgement to specialised product categories
Structured Evaluation & Feedback
- Provide concise, evidence-based feedback on reviewed materials
- Identify substantive sales, technical, and communication weaknesses
- Distinguish material issues from minor stylistic differences
- Apply evaluation standards consistently across assignments
- Support quality improvement through specific and actionable observations
Ideal Profile
- 4+ years of relevant professional experience in technical sales, B2B sales, wholesale sales, manufacturing sales, scientific sales, or a closely related role
- Experience as a Sales Representative, Technical Sales Representative, Manufacturer's Representative, Inside Sales Representative, or similar commercial professional
- Demonstrated experience selling technical, scientific, industrial, engineering, biological, chemical, or electronic products
- Strong understanding of B2B sales conversations, customer discovery, value propositions, proposals, and commercial decision-making
- Ability to assess both technical accuracy and sales effectiveness
- Strong written English communication skills
- Excellent judgement and attention to customer context and commercial detail
- Ability to work independently and provide precise written feedback
Engagement Details
- Part-time independent contractor engagement
- Fully remote
- Availability of 20+ hours per week
- Immediate start
- Initial project duration of approximately 4–6 weeks
- Compensation: $60–$100/hour for hourly project work
- The initial assignment is task-based; contributors who successfully complete and receive approval for their first task may then qualify for hourly work for the remainder of the project
- Work includes evaluation of sales conversations, emails, proposals, and technical or scientific product sales scenarios
- Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on project needs and performance
- Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
- H1-B and STEM OPT support is unavailable for this engagement
