About the job Remote | Mechanical Design / CAD Expert — $60–$130/hour

We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Mechanical Design and CAD professionals with strong expertise in parametric modelling, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, design for manufacturability and assembly, production drawings, and engineering release workflows to contribute to an advanced AI training and mechanical-design evaluation project.

Selected professionals will solve and review complex mechanical-design problems, assess AI-generated engineering responses, analyse production-ready designs, and provide rigorous feedback across CAD modelling, tolerancing, manufacturing constraints, and drawing release. No prior experience in AI is required.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design, CAD & Tolerancing

  • Solve advanced part and assembly design problems across realistic production scenarios
  • Review parametric CAD models for design intent, robustness, constraints, and maintainability
  • Apply GD&T principles in accordance with ASME Y14.5
  • Evaluate datum schemes, feature control frames, fits, interfaces, and dimensional requirements
  • Perform or review worst-case and statistical tolerance stack-up analyses

DFM/DFA & Production Release

  • Evaluate designs for manufacturability and assembly across machining, sheet metal, injection moulding, casting, and related processes
  • Identify tooling, access, draft, fixturing, assembly, and producibility constraints
  • Review engineering drawings for dimensions, tolerances, notes, and release readiness
  • Support concept-to-detail design development and ECR/ECN-related changes
  • Recommend practical improvements balancing function, manufacturing, and reliability

AI Evaluation & Technical Review

  • Review AI-generated mechanical-design responses for technical correctness and practical applicability
  • Identify incorrect assumptions, incomplete reasoning, or unrealistic design recommendations
  • Distinguish substantive engineering issues from acceptable alternative approaches
  • Provide clear, structured technical feedback supporting model improvement
  • Collaborate remotely with other subject-matter experts and project participants

Ideal Profile

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of production-design or comparable mechanical-engineering experience
  • Proven experience owning designs through GD&T, tolerance analysis, DFM/DFA, drawing release, and production
  • Expert knowledge of parametric CAD modelling
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Experience with machining, sheet metal, injection moulding, casting, or related manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, Inventor, or comparable CAD platforms
  • PLM/PDM, CAM, CNC programming, or ASME B89 experience is advantageous
  • CSWP or CSWE certification is a plus
  • Strong technical problem-solving and communication skills
  • Evidence of rigorous technical-review or problem-authoring experience, including standards work, competitions, publications, research recognition, or comparable achievements, is highly valued
  • No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required

Engagement Details

  • Independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Displayed compensation range: $60–$130/hour
  • Actual compensation structure is output-based, with payment made per task that meets project specifications
  • Task completion time may vary depending on experience and workflow
  • Minimum weekly submission requirements apply; the source does not specify the exact number of required tasks
  • Work will involve mechanical design, CAD modelling, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, DFM/DFA, production drawing review, and AI-generated engineering-content evaluation
  • Roles are typically filled within approximately 48 hours
  • Selected experts are expected to begin initial tasks within approximately 24–48 hours after onboarding
  • Project scope, workload, design problems, and evaluation standards may evolve depending on project requirements
