About the job Remote | Mechanical Engineering Expert — $60–$100/hour

We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Mechanical Engineering professionals with strong expertise in engineering mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, structural analysis, vibrations, manufacturing, simulation, and R&D to contribute to an advanced AI training and mechanical-engineering evaluation project.

Selected professionals will solve and review advanced mechanical-engineering problems, assess AI-generated technical responses, analyse realistic design and R&D scenarios, and provide rigorous feedback grounded in professional engineering practice. No prior experience in AI is required.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical, Thermal & Fluid Analysis

  • Solve advanced mechanical-engineering problems using first-principles reasoning
  • Analyse statics, dynamics, loads, stresses, deformation, and structural behaviour
  • Evaluate thermodynamic systems, energy balances, heat transfer, and thermal performance
  • Analyse fluid-flow behaviour, pressure, velocity, losses, and related assumptions
  • Assess boundary conditions, constraints, modelling choices, and alternative solution approaches

Simulation, Vibrations & Engineering Design

  • Review FEA and simulation setups, including meshes, loads, constraints, and material assumptions
  • Evaluate structural and thermal results against analytical calculations or expected physical behaviour
  • Analyse vibration, resonance, damping, natural frequencies, and dynamic response
  • Incorporate manufacturing, product-development, reliability, and practical design considerations
  • Identify modelling errors, unrealistic assumptions, or opportunities to improve robustness and manufacturability

AI Evaluation & Technical Review

  • Review AI-generated mechanical-engineering responses for technical correctness and completeness
  • Identify calculation errors, weak assumptions, or flawed engineering reasoning
  • Compare alternative approaches and distinguish substantive issues from acceptable solutions
  • Provide clear, structured written feedback supporting model improvement
  • Collaborate remotely with other subject-matter experts and project participants

Ideal Profile

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, or BS in Mechanical Engineering with 8+ years of relevant industry experience
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design, analysis, or R&D
  • Strong expertise in statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
  • Demonstrated proficiency with FEA, structural analysis, and vibration or dynamic-system analysis
  • Ability to combine finite-element methods, hand calculations, and experimental validation
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and product-development environments
  • Knowledge of ASME BPVC, related ASME codes, and design-for-reliability practices is advantageous
  • Experience with ANSYS, Abaqus, Nastran, or comparable simulation tools is valuable
  • Familiarity with CAD platforms is beneficial
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and technical communication skills
  • Evidence of rigorous technical-review or problem-authoring experience, including standards work, publications, awards, research recognition, or comparable achievements, is highly valued
  • No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required

Engagement Details

  • Displayed compensation range: $60–$100/hour
  • Actual compensation structure is output-based, with payment made per task that meets project specifications
  • Task completion time may vary depending on experience and workflow
  • Minimum weekly submission requirements apply; the source does not specify the exact number of required tasks
  • Work will involve engineering mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, FEA, vibrations, manufacturing, technical analysis, and AI-generated engineering-content evaluation
  • Roles are typically filled within approximately 48 hours
  • Selected experts are expected to begin initial tasks within approximately 24–48 hours after onboarding
  • Project scope, workload, engineering topics, and evaluation standards may evolve depending on project requirements
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, manufacturer, research institution, engineering organisation, or other third party
