Remote | Software Engineering Specialist — $90–$140/hour

We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Software Engineering professionals with strong expertise in system design, code review, debugging, automation testing, performance analysis, and technical documentation to contribute to an advanced AI training and technical evaluation project.

Selected professionals will analyse engineering decisions, review code and architectural proposals, develop rigorous technical documentation, and explain complex software concepts with clarity and precision. The work combines production-grade software engineering experience with sophisticated technical writing and structured reasoning. No prior experience in AI is required.

Key Responsibilities

System Design & Technical Analysis

• Analyse technical decisions and clearly articulate the reasoning behind different engineering approaches
• Evaluate system-design proposals for scalability, maintainability, reliability, and technical feasibility
• Identify architectural strengths, weaknesses, risks, and potential improvements
• Explain engineering trade-offs involving performance, complexity, cost, reliability, and development effort
• Apply production engineering judgement to realistic system-design scenarios

Code Review & Debugging

• Review code samples and provide detailed, expert-level written feedback
• Identify defects, maintainability concerns, performance issues, and implementation weaknesses
• Conduct structured debugging exercises and document step-by-step reasoning
• Recommend technically sound solutions rather than superficial workarounds
• Evaluate proposed fixes for correctness, robustness, and long-term maintainability

Technical Documentation & Engineering Communication

• Produce comprehensive technical documents including RFCs, ADRs, design specifications, and related engineering materials
• Document technical decisions, alternatives, assumptions, and implementation rationale clearly
• Translate complex engineering concepts into concise and accessible language
• Adapt technical communication to both specialist and broader audiences
• Maintain precision and logical structure across written technical deliverables

Automation Testing & Performance Evaluation

• Develop clear and actionable automation-testing strategies
• Evaluate testing approaches for coverage, reliability, maintainability, and effectiveness
• Produce performance-analysis reports identifying bottlenecks and optimisation opportunities
• Assess trade-offs between competing implementation or testing approaches
• Recommend engineering best practices based on the requirements and constraints of each scenario

Ideal Profile

• At least 3 years of experience delivering production-grade software using a modern technology stack
• Strong practical understanding of software engineering and system-design principles
• Demonstrated experience authoring RFCs, ADRs, design documentation, or substantial technical review commentary
• Strong code-review and debugging skills across real-world software systems
• Experience analysing software performance and engineering trade-offs
• Familiarity with automation-testing frameworks and testing strategy development
• Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly in written English
• Strong analytical reasoning and ability to justify technical decisions with precision
• Experience collaborating with leading technology organisations or well-regarded academic institutions is advantageous
• Comfortable producing detailed technical analysis independently within a remote environment
• No prior experience in AI training or model evaluation is required

• Compensation: $90–$140/hour
• Work will involve system-design analysis, code review, debugging, automation-testing strategy, performance evaluation, and technical documentation
• Strong production software engineering experience and sophisticated technical writing ability are central to this engagement
• Assignments may include RFCs, ADRs, design specifications, architectural reviews, debugging scenarios, and technical trade-off analyses
• Project scope, workload, technical scenarios, and evaluation standards may evolve depending on project requirements
