Remote | Senior Designer (AI Design Research Study) — $140–$240/hour

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for senior design professionals with deep expertise in product design, UX, brand, or adjacent creative disciplines to participate in a paid AI design research study.

This project explores how experienced designers approach complex problems, evaluate design quality, conduct critique, and determine when work is ready to ship. Selected professionals will participate in structured, recorded remote research sessions, either sharing their own expert design process or facilitating interviews with other senior designers.

Key Responsibilities

Design Expertise & Decision-Making

• Share expert perspectives on how design problems are approached and solved
• Explain the principles and judgement used to distinguish strong design craft from weaker work
• Discuss how quality, usability, coherence, and execution are evaluated throughout the design process
• Articulate the trade-offs and decisions involved in refining work for launch
• Provide practical examples grounded in senior-level professional design experience

Design Critique & Quality Evaluation

• Evaluate design concepts and explain the reasoning behind professional critique
• Discuss standards used to assess whether a design meets an appropriate quality bar
• Identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement within design work
• Explain how feedback is prioritised and translated into actionable design decisions
• Demonstrate how experienced designers balance craft, user needs, business goals, and delivery constraints

Research Interviews & Structured Sessions

• Participate in structured, recorded remote research interviews
• Prepare for sessions by reviewing relevant prompts or materials
• Provide clear and detailed explanations of design processes and professional judgement
• Depending on project fit, conduct structured interviews with other senior design professionals
• Complete a brief review or follow-up activity after each session

Design Process & Professional Insight

• Explain how design work progresses from initial problem definition through iteration and final delivery
• Share perspectives on collaboration, critique, iteration, and shipping standards
• Discuss approaches to product, UX, brand, or related design disciplines based on professional expertise
• Help capture nuanced expert reasoning that can inform the development of AI-powered design tools
• Maintain clear boundaries around confidential, unreleased, or proprietary work

Ideal Profile

• Senior-level professional experience in product design, UX design, brand design, or a closely related design discipline
• Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality professional work
• Clear point of view on design quality, critique, craft, and shipping standards
• Ability to articulate complex design decisions and professional judgement clearly
• Strong communication and interview skills
• Comfortable participating in structured, recorded remote research sessions
• Experience leading design critiques, mentoring designers, conducting interviews, or facilitating design discussions is advantageous
• Portfolio website or other publicly shareable work samples are strongly preferred
• Only work that can be shared publicly and is not confidential, unreleased, or covered by NDA restrictions should be submitted

Engagement Details

• Part-time independent contractor engagement
• Fully remote
• Approximately 4–5 hours per task or interview, including preparation and brief post-session review
• Compensation: $140–$240/hour
• Project structure, timing, volume, and compensation may evolve as research requirements are finalised
• Portfolio materials are used solely to assess suitability for the study and are not intended for model training
• Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
• H1-B and STEM OPT support is unavailable for this engagement
