About the job Remote | Criminal Defense Attorney (BigLaw Firms) — $140–$400/hour
We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Criminal Defense Attorneys with substantial BigLaw or major law firm experience and strong expertise in criminal law, trial advocacy, legal writing, case analysis, and professional ethics to contribute to an advanced legal AI training and evaluation project.
Selected professionals will analyse complex criminal-law scenarios, review litigation materials, evaluate trial strategies and procedural issues, and develop realistic simulations reflecting sophisticated criminal-defense practice. No prior experience in AI is required.
Key Responsibilities
Criminal Law & Case Strategy
- Analyse complex criminal-law fact patterns and identify material legal and procedural issues
- Evaluate defense strategies, alternative arguments, and litigation risks
- Assess evidentiary considerations, procedural safeguards, and courtroom strategy
- Apply practical criminal-defense judgement to sophisticated case scenarios
- Develop clear reasoning supporting strategic decisions
Litigation Drafting & Trial Evaluation
- Draft and review pleadings, motions, and other litigation materials
- Evaluate legal arguments for accuracy, clarity, and persuasiveness
- Assess trial advocacy, courtroom procedures, and litigation tactics
- Identify weaknesses in written advocacy or legal reasoning
- Apply professional litigation-writing standards consistently
Ethics, Simulation & AI Evaluation
- Evaluate professional-responsibility and ethical issues arising in criminal-defense practice
- Develop realistic simulations reflecting complex litigation scenarios
- Review AI-generated legal analyses and strategy recommendations
- Identify legal errors, weak reasoning, or unrealistic litigation approaches
- Provide structured expert feedback supporting model improvement
Ideal Profile
- Extensive experience practising criminal defense
- Substantial BigLaw or comparable major law firm experience
- Proven litigation and trial-advocacy experience in complex criminal matters
- Exceptional legal-writing, analytical, and reasoning skills
- Strong ability to assess case strategy, procedural issues, and evidentiary considerations
- Deep understanding of professional ethics and criminal-defense best practices
- Familiarity with courtroom procedure and procedural safeguards
- Experience reviewing, preparing, or teaching litigation strategy is highly valuable
- Strong written and verbal communication and professional judgement
- Familiarity with technology-assisted legal research or digital case-management tools is advantageous
- Legal education, professional-development, or innovation experience is beneficial
- No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required

- Compensation: $140–$400/hour
- Work will involve criminal-law analysis, trial strategy, legal drafting, case review, ethical evaluation, simulation development, and AI-output assessment
- Assignments may involve pleadings, motions, procedural issues, trial strategies, courtroom scenarios, and complex criminal-law fact patterns
- Project scope, workload, legal topics, and evaluation standards may evolve depending on project requirements
- Work must be completed without using confidential or privileged information belonging to any employer, client, law firm, institution, or other third party
