About the job Remote | U.S based Accountant (CPA/CA) — $65–$70/hour
We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced U.S. tax professionals with strong expertise in tax-law interpretation, IRS and state regulatory analysis, statutory review, structured written evaluation, and technology-driven tax validation to contribute to an advanced AI training and tax-reasoning project.
Selected professionals will analyse U.S. sales and use tax statutes, regulations, and selected federal provisions, translating complex legal requirements into precise evaluation criteria. The work focuses on determining whether AI-generated formal interpretations accurately capture statutory conditions, thresholds, exceptions, definitions, and logical relationships. No prior AI experience is required.
Key Responsibilities
U.S. Tax Law & Statutory Interpretation
- Read and interpret sales and use tax statutes across U.S. state jurisdictions
- Review relevant regulations and selected federal tax provisions
- Analyse statutory language at the subsection level
- Identify conditions, thresholds, exceptions, definitions, and dependencies
- Distinguish genuine legal requirements from assumptions or unsupported interpretations
Rubric & Requirement Development
- Convert statutory provisions into discrete, testable evaluation criteria
- Develop rubrics independently from AI-generated outputs
- Ensure each criterion is grounded directly in statutory language
- Define clear requirements another reviewer can apply consistently
- Separate critical requirements from secondary and minor considerations
AI Translation Evaluation
- Review formal AI-generated translations of tax statutes
- Score outputs against established rubrics using structured pass/fail criteria
- Verify accurate treatment of conditions, thresholds, AND/OR logic, and statutory exceptions
- Identify omitted, distorted, or incorrectly represented legal requirements
- Provide precise explanations supporting each evaluation decision
Tax Scenario & Edge-Case Design
- Develop self-contained test scenarios for failed criteria
- Include explicit facts, dates, monetary amounts, and expected outcomes
- Create edge cases that test statutory exceptions and threshold conditions
- Ensure scenarios directly reflect the underlying legal requirement
- Use practical examples to validate the consistency of tax interpretations
Legal Logic & Regulatory Analysis
- Analyse statutory structures involving conditional and nested logic
- Identify relevant exceptions, defined terms, exclusions, and cross-references
- Flag genuine ambiguity where statutory language permits multiple interpretations
- Distinguish legal ambiguity from model error or incomplete analysis
- Apply rigorous reasoning across multi-jurisdictional tax requirements
Structured Review & Feedback
- Submit evaluations through a digital review platform
- Produce clear and self-contained written feedback
- Document discrepancies and reasoning precisely
- Maintain consistency across repeated statutory-review assignments
- Contribute actionable feedback supporting improvements in AI-powered tax systems
Ideal Profile
- Active CPA licence, Chartered Accountant designation, or experience as a U.S. tax attorney
- Strong experience interpreting U.S. tax statutes and regulations
- Sales and use tax or broader state and local tax experience is strongly preferred
- Proven ability to analyse statutory language rather than solely prepare tax returns
- Strong understanding of legal logic, including conditions, thresholds, AND/OR structures, exceptions, and defined terms
- Excellent structured written communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail, particularly around exclusions, exceptions, and edge cases
- Strong analytical reasoning and ability to defend evaluation conclusions clearly
- Comfortable working within digital review and quality-assurance platforms
- Experience across multiple U.S. state tax jurisdictions is highly valuable
- Enrolled Agent designation or relevant federal tax experience is advantageous
- Experience reviewing AI-generated or technology-driven tax content is beneficial
- Background in training teams or providing written feedback on legal or tax language is a plus
- Interest in the intersection of tax compliance and technology is highly relevant
- No prior AI-training experience is required
