Job Openings Remote | Architectural Design & Documentation Expert — Up to $65/hour

About the job Remote | Architectural Design & Documentation Expert — Up to $65/hour

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for architecture professionals with strong expertise in building design, architectural documentation, visual interpretation, and technical reasoning.

This role supports a research project focused on evaluating complex visual and document-based tasks within the architecture domain. Selected experts will create rigorous, professionally grounded assignments based on architectural materials, define clear expected outputs, and develop objective evaluation criteria.

Key Responsibilities

Architectural Task Design

  • Create complex, realistic tasks grounded in professional architecture workflows
  • Develop assignments involving building design, architectural drawings, plans, diagrams, and related visual materials
  • Ensure tasks require meaningful architectural judgement and domain knowledge
  • Define clear and objectively verifiable expected outputs
  • Design problems that reflect realistic professional scenarios rather than generic visual exercises

Visual Document Interpretation

  • Develop tasks requiring careful analysis of architectural drawings and visual documentation
  • Interpret plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules, and related building-design materials
  • Identify relevant spatial, dimensional, structural, and functional information
  • Create questions that require accurate reasoning across multiple visual sources
  • Ensure task requirements remain grounded in the supplied architectural documentation

Architecture & Building Design Reasoning

  • Apply professional knowledge of architectural design principles and building organisation
  • Develop tasks involving spatial relationships, circulation, programme, layout, and design intent
  • Incorporate realistic constraints and architectural decision-making
  • Evaluate whether proposed outputs are consistent with the underlying drawings and specifications
  • Distinguish technically grounded conclusions from unsupported assumptions

Ground-Truth Development

  • Produce authoritative reference answers for each assigned task
  • Establish clear ground truth based on the architectural source materials
  • Verify that expected outputs are accurate, complete, and reproducible
  • Document the reasoning and evidence supporting each reference answer
  • Resolve ambiguity before tasks progress to final evaluation

Rubric & Quality Development

  • Write objective rubrics defining the requirements for a successful response
  • Identify critical elements that must appear in a correct solution
  • Distinguish substantive architectural errors from minor presentation differences
  • Refine tasks and rubrics to improve clarity, difficulty, and evaluation reliability
  • Maintain consistent standards across the dataset

Ideal Profile

  • Professional background in Architecture, Architectural Design, Building Design, or a closely related discipline
  • Strong ability to interpret architectural drawings, plans, sections, elevations, and technical documentation
  • Practical understanding of building design and professional architectural workflows
  • Strong visual reasoning and attention to detail
  • Ability to create challenging, well-defined technical problems with objective answers
  • Excellent written communication and ability to explain architectural reasoning clearly
  • Comfortable working independently within structured research guidelines
  • Experience developing technical assessments, educational materials, evaluation criteria, or similar structured content is advantageous
  • Based in the United States or Canada

Engagement Details

  • Part-time independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote within the United States or Canada
  • Expected commitment of approximately 15–20 hours per week
  • Flexible scheduling based on project requirements
  • Compensation: Up to $65/hour
  • Work focuses on architectural task authoring, reference-answer development, and evaluation criteria
  • Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on project needs and performance
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
  • H1-B and STEM OPT support is unavailable for this engagement
