A major Australian construction group with an extensive track record delivering complex, high-profile projects is building its prospective project team for one of Brisbane's most significant future construction programs. This opportunity is associated with a major multi-building development at Brisbane Showgrounds, Bowen Hills, forming part of the infrastructure and accommodation program supporting Brisbane 2032.

We are seeking an experienced, practical and site-focused Safety Officer to support the delivery team across an allocated building, project zone or group of work fronts within this large-scale construction environment.

The Role

Reporting to the HSE Manager / Project Manager, you will:

  • Provide day-to-day site safety support and monitoring and conducting site inspections, safety walks and hazard identification
  • Monitor compliance with WHS legislation, project safety systems, SWMS and permits
  • Review SWMS and high-risk construction activities and ensure appropriate controls are implemented
  • Support pre-starts, toolbox talks, safety meetings and subcontractor inductions
  • Monitor high-risk activities including formwork, working at heights, crane operations, scaffolding, mobile plant and structural works
  • Work closely with Site Managers, Foremen, Supervisors and subcontractors to resolve safety issues
  • Support incident and near-miss investigations and corrective actions
  • Maintain safety registers, inspections and compliance documentation
  • Monitor subcontractor safety performance and address non-compliance
  • Assist with WHS audits and inspections
  • Promote a practical, proactive and positive safety culture across the project

What We're Looking For

  • Certificate IV, Diploma or relevant qualification in Work Health & Safety
  • Previous experience as a Safety Officer, WHS Officer, HSE Advisor or Safety Coordinator
  • Construction industry experience essential
  • Major commercial, high-rise residential or large-scale project experience highly regarded
  • Sound knowledge of Queensland WHS legislation and Codes of Practice
  • Strong understanding of SWMS, risk assessments, permits and incident reporting
  • Practical experience monitoring high-risk construction activities
  • Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with subcontractors and site personnel
  • Construction White Card
  • First Aid, Working at Heights, ICAM/investigation or other relevant qualifications advantageous

We are looking for someone who is visible on site and comfortable working directly with construction teams — able to build strong relationships while having the confidence to challenge unsafe practices when required.
