An exceptional opportunity exists for an experienced General Manager – Formwork & Structures to lead and grow the in-house formwork division of a well-established Queensland general contracting construction business. Having historically outsourced its structural works, the company has now made the strategic decision to self-perform all formwork and concrete structures across its projects. With an experienced workforce already established and approximately $20 million of secured structural work annually over the next four years, the foundations are in place. What is now required is an outstanding leader to take the business to the next level. This is a genuine opportunity to build a division, shape its culture, implement best practice and become a key member of the senior leadership team.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will take full operational responsibility for the company's formwork and structures division, leading multiple projects while establishing systems, driving productivity and developing high-performing site teams. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring someone who enjoys being both strategic and site-focused.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the company's in-house formwork and structures division.
  • Drive programme performance and maintain project momentum across multiple sites.
  • Mentor, develop and lead Foremen, Supervisors, Leading Hands and site crews.
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on safety, quality and productivity.
  • Coordinate labour, plant, materials and subcontractors.
  • Implement operational systems, reporting and planning processes with support from the general contractor who is the parent company.
  • Monitor programs, budgets, productivity and commercial performance.
  • Work collaboratively with senior project teams to ensure successful delivery.
  • Identify project risks and implement practical solutions.
  • Maintain exceptional standards of safety, quality and client service.

About You

You will be an experienced leader with a proven history of delivering complex structural concrete projects and managing large site-based teams. You will ideally possess:

  • Approximately 15+ years' experience within commercial formwork and concrete construction with extensive experience delivering high-rise residential, commercial or major concrete structures.
  • Strong leadership and people management capability – this is pivotal!
  • A practical, decisive and solutions-focused approach.
  • Excellent planning, programming and organisational skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with contract management experience highly regarded.
  • The ability to build culture, mentor teams and continuously improve operational performance.
