Sr Cloud Engineer

Job Title: Sr. Platform Engineer (Azure / Terraform / Backstage)
Time Zone: Full overlap with Pacific Time, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

About the Role
We are looking for a Sr. Platform Engineer to help design and build an automated Golden Path for site bootstrapping. This role will focus on creating a one-click provisioning process for networking, compute, and storage on Azure, exposed through a Backstage developer portal. The ideal candidate has strong experience in cloud infrastructure automation, platform engineering, GitOps, and developer experience tooling. This is a highly technical role requiring strong ownership, architecture skills, and the ability to build scalable, repeatable provisioning frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build modular Azure infrastructure blueprints using Terraform to support automated site provisioning.
• Develop and customize Node.js-based Backstage plugins, scaffolder actions, and service catalog extensions.
• Build automated state reconciliation workflows using pipelines, controllers, ArgoCD, Flux, OpenTofu, Helm Umbrella charts, and GitOps practices.
• Extend the Backstage Service Catalog to provide visibility into pending, active, and deprecated site footprints.
• Support automated validation, policy-as-code, and PR workflows to reduce manual errors.
• Lead the migration of legacy sites into the new blueprint framework while maintaining configuration parity and minimizing downtime.

Must-have Requirements

• 7+ years of engineering experience.
• Advanced experience with Terraform.
• Strong experience with Azure and the Azure Provider, including VNet peering, Managed Identities, and remote state management at scale.
• Strong backend development experience with Node.js, TypeScript, or JavaScript.
• Direct experience with Backstage, including the Software Catalog and Scaffolder.
• Experience writing template.yaml files and integrating Backstage with GitHub, GitLab, or Azure DevOps.
• Strong experience with CI/CD and GitOps practices.
• Experience with automated PR workflows, automated validation, and policy-as-code.
• Deep understanding of cloud-native networking, compute, and storage scaling.
• Experience working in high-compliance cloud environments.
• Full overlap with Pacific Time, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
• C1 level English.
