Our client is a fast-moving payments startup on a mission to modernize how businesses and consumers move money. As they scale, they are looking for a hands-on Finance Manager who thrives in ambiguity, rolls up their sleeves, and builds robust financial processes from the ground up.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from a top-tier university.
  • Qualified CA(SA) or member of a recognized professional accounting body.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of post-articles experience; background in a Big Four or large accounting firm strongly preferred.
  • Experience in banking, fintech, or payments environments is a significant advantage.
  • Strong command of SQL and familiarity with data analysis tools such as Python, PowerBI, or similar.
  • Solid understanding of IT systems, business infrastructure, and how technology intersects with financial operations.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and able to thrive in dynamic, fast-changing startup environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present complex financial concepts in a clear and an accessible manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset for cross-functional work.

  

Responsibilities

 

Drive Financial Strategy & Controls

  • Design, implement, and refine financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to support rapid growth.
  • Monitor daily cash flows, payments operations, and treasury activities, ensuring alignment with
  • SOPs and internal governance.

  

Operational Leadership

  • Manage the full payment lifecycle, from authorization through to settlement and reconciliation.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, HR, and Operations to embed financial discipline into core business processes.

  

Data-Driven Insights

  • Develop and maintain dashboards and KPIs using tools like SQL, Python, PowerBI (or equivalents) to track performance and guide strategic decisions.
  • Conduct variance analysis and financial modeling to assess new product lines, business initiatives, and market opportunities.

  

Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS/GAAP.
  • Lead tax filings, regulatory reporting, and audit processes, working closely with external auditors and tax advisors.

  

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead, mentor, and coach junior finance staff, cultivating a high-performance and continuous-improvement culture.
  • Act as a trusted partner to senior leadership, delivering actionable financial recommendations and clear risk assessments.
