Role Overview

Our client is seeking a results-driven Treasury Specialist to join their Treasury function with a focus on managing surplus merchant deposits, ensuring liquidity, executing investments, and overseeing settlements. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines, while optimizing returns and maintaining financial stability. As the first hire in the finance function, the ideal candidate must be hands-on, systems-savvy, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced, startup environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, Economics or a related field
  • ICAN/ACCA certification (in progress or completed) is preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of CBN guidelines, internal control frameworks, AML, KYC, and risk management practices.
  • At least 5 years of experience in treasury or financial operations, preferably within a financial institution.
  • Strong knowledge of CBN regulatory framework for microfinance banks.
  • Proficiency in Excel, financial systems, and settlement processes.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and professional integrity.


Responsibilities

  • Manage daily liquidity and cash flow to meet operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Invest surplus funds in approved instruments (e.g., treasury bills, government bonds) in line with CBN regulations.
  • Oversee and execute timely settlement of treasury, interbank, and investment transactions.
  • Monitor treasury-related risks and ensure strict adherence to internal controls and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate treasury reporting and reconciliations, including preparation of reports for management and regulators.
  • Maintain strong relationships with banks, counterparties, and regulatory bodies.
  • Support financial planning, capital management, and asset-liability strategies.
